Facebook's Market share Rises But MySpace Still On Top

Adotas reports that Facebook’s traffic is up in the U.S. But MySpace is still the kind of social networking .Another Social network MyYearBook’s rise was even more impressive than Facebook’s with a whopping 256% growth. (But they only had 1.65% of market share).

Facebook’s traffic spiked 50% since last August, according to Hitwise – but MySpace still dominates the social media market, with 67.5% of the share. MySpace lost a market share of 10%, so it looks like it’s just a matter of time before Facebook is on top. Unless of course, the newly launched MySpace music service resuscitates the flailing network.

In June, comScore reported that Facebook traffic had surpassed MySpace traffic for the first time (much of the growth was attributed to overseas growth)

Google Adsense to Power Yahoo Sponsored Ads

In a major advertising deal to shore up Yahoo's revenue from its sponsored search listings. Google announced an advertising deal with Yahoo, which allows Google to run their adsense for search and adsense for content alongside Yahoo's own sponsored search results.

This will give Yahoo! further option to display Google ads alongside search results and web properties in U.S. and Canada.

It also allows Yahoo! to use Google ads on as many or as few of its search results or web pages as it chooses

Readwrite reports that The crux of the deal is that Yahoo! will be able to better monetize the 'long tail' of their search, using Google's flagship product "Adsense."

Here are the main points, according to Google:

* This is a non-exclusive deal that will strengthen Yahoo!.
* Ad prices will continue to be set by competitive auction.
* The deal is win-win for consumers, advertisers and publishers: more and better ads

Google however talks nothing about the revenue which expects to earn from this deal. The deal also will also enable interoperability between Yahoo IM and Google Talk. This benefits Google more than Yahoo, given that Yahoo is one of the market leaders in IM and Google is far behind

Google Brings Archived Newspapers Online

After taking on the Book Publisher Business,Google has turned to digitizing newspapers from the past. Newspapers and Magazines which view Google as one of their competitors are finally coming round and trying to work with Google and benefit from Google" Digitizing their Prized Newspaper Archives.

In a report published at New York Times,Giguel Helft, says "Google has begun scanning microfilm from some newspapers’ historic archives to make them searchable ot nline, first through Google News and eventually on the papers’ own Web sites, the company said Monday".

This will allow Google News users to search the archives of some major newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, The Washington Post and Time, that were already available in digital form. Readers will be able to search the archives using keywords and view articles as they appeared originally in the print pages of newspapers.

Initially, this will be available through Google News, but Google plans to develop a model to give newspapers a way to make their archives available on their own sites.

“This is really good for newspapers because we are going to be bringing online an old generation of contributions from journalists, as well as widening the reader base of news archives,” said Marissa Mayer, vice president for search products and user experience at Google.

However some skeptics remain. “The concern is that Google, in making all of the past newspaper content available, can greatly commoditize that content, just like news portals have commoditized current news content,” said Ken Doctor, an analyst with Outsell, a research company.

At present Google was working with more than 100 newspapers and partners like Heritage Microfilm and ProQuest, which aggregate historical newspaper archives in microfilm. It has already scanned millions of articles.

Google Chrome Browser Launched

Google browser Google Chrome Launched: Microsoft now has a real challenge it seems. Google has attacked the very Domain that made "Microsoft the undisputed Ruler" .. Google Chrome has the power to unsettle the explorer 8.0.The browser Chrome Google will include a JavaScript Virtual Machine called V8. The Beta version of the Chrome will be launched in more than 100 countries today.

Blogging on their official Google Blog, Sundar Pichai, VP Product Management, and Linus Upson, Engineering Director says.

On the surface, we designed a browser window that is streamlined and simple. To most people, it isn't the browser that matters. It's only a tool to run the important stuff -- the pages, sites and applications that make up the web. Like the classic Google homepage, Google Chrome is clean and fast. It gets out of your way and gets you where you want to go.

Here are some features of Google Chrome

Tabs will be above the address bar,Chrome puts the tab buttons on the upper side of the window.
  • Google Chrome includes a feature of “speed dial” similar to Opera.
  • More Privacy: This one is real breakthrough from Google Chrome :Chrome has an “incognito” window “and nothing that occurs in that window is ever logged on your computer.
  • Chrome wont let your PC be infected with malware and phishing attempts, Chrome is constantly downloading lists of harmful sites.
  • Web apps can be launched in their own browser window without address bar and toolbar
I would just like to know why exactly was" Google Chrome" named as Chrome as such ..Anyone with reasonable answers ?
