Twitter users have clocked up an impressive 20 billion tweets since its creation in 2006, once again proving the on-going popularity of the micro-blogging site.
A graphic designer from Tokyo (@GGGGGGo_lets_Go) lays claim to the 20 billionth tweet, which translates as: "So that means the barrage might come back later all at once."
The URL suffix '20000000000' hs just reached its hall of fame " and is now famous and is one of the top search currently ..Possibly means 20 billion.
The japanese graphic designer wrote "It looks like I posted the 20 billionth tweet. I'm getting replies from people all over the world. It's scary. What are the chances? Maybe I'm going to die. Is it more amazing than winning the lottery? I thought it was a joke," he wrote moments later.
Twitter's popularity in Japan has soared in the past year with the company estimating that the Japanese send about 12% of all tweets worldwide, second only to the US.
Twitter is also rolling out Facebook style suggested friends to follow .t is just two months since Twitter's 15-billionth tweet and only five months since the ten billionth, which took four years to reach. Worldwide around 300,000 users are signing up for new accounts every day.
Twitter's new " Who To Follow feature "shows up two users just below the user statistics on the Twitter web page. According to Twitter communications executive Carolyn Penner this is possible by running algorithms and suggest people you don t currently follow that you may find interesting. Now these algorithms are said to consider several factors that also include people they follow and people you follow.
