Four of the six “majors”- Royal Dutch Shell, BP, Chevron and ConocoPhillips – have profit margins that start below the S&P energy-stock average of 9.7%.

Ford Motor Co (F.N) is expected to post its biggest annual profit in a decade on Friday, after lowering operating costs and increasing sales to make it No. 2 in the U.S. market.
