Retail Shopping via Mobile : Apps vs Mobile Platforms

Comscore recent research on the “state of  U.S. retail consumption via their mobile phones revealed various usage patterns across platforms.Nearly half of all smartphone owners used only their mobile browser to access retail content in September 2011, with 26% using just apps and 18% using a combination of access methods.

 According toChadwick Martin Bailey , iModerate Research resports that , Smartphones are becoming an indispensable tool in the shopping experience. The study of 1,400 +users, showed that iPhone owners top the list with more than 70 percent reporting they use applications or the phone’s Web browser to assist them while shopping in-store
Apple iPhone users were more likely to access retail content via apps only (36%) when compared to Android users (24%) .Post Black Friday 2011 saw the emergence of  the mobile a  a  shopping devices for sales in a big way .According to Coremetrics data  iPhone and iPad formed 10 to 12% of Holiday sales in 2011( source :)

10.8% of shoppers used a mobile device to visit a retailer’s site on thanksgiving shopping , up from 3.9% a year ago. That traffic corresponded to a growth in mobile sales, which increased to 6.6% of online purchases from 2.3% in 2010
