Meawhile 89.6 million Americans accessed mobiles email for work or personal purposes during the
three-month average period ending November 2011, growing 28% from the last
year and representing an additional 19.5 million mobile email users. In
November2011, nearly 2 of every 5 mobile users in the U.S. used email (both
smartphone and non-smartphone users), with penetration much higher among just
smartphone owners at 78%.

Mobile devices represent the future of social networking as they provide the means for users to connect on-the-go, facilitating real-time interaction. In October 2011, nearly one-third (32 percent) of the total U.S. mobile population age 13 and older reported accessing social networking sites on their phone at least once in the past month. Across five leading European markets (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom), nearly a quarter (24 percent) of the total mobile population reported engaging with their social networks on their mobile devices. Among these EU5 markets, the UK showed the highest social networking penetration among mobile users at 35 percent.
