Global Smartphone Numbers in 2012 Platforms vs Vendors

According to IDC, the worldwide smartphone market grew 54.7% year over year in the fourth quarter of 2011. This growth was driven by  Apple's iPhone 4S release into the marketplace. The leaders in the market are Nokia (27.6 %) and Apple (15.9%).

Chart: U.S. Smartphone Platform Share Jan-2012Description: The number of U.S. smartphone subscribers surpassed the 100-million mark in January, up 13 percent since October to 101.3 million subscribers. Google Android ranked as the top smartphone platform with 48.6 percent market share (up 2.3 percentage points) followed by Apple with 29.5 percent market share (up 1.4 percentage points). The number of U.S. smartphone subscribers has risen 13 percent since October 2011 to 101.3 million subscribers. comScore just announced the top ranking smartphone platforms. Google Android is the top smartphone platform with nearly half of the market share as theirs (48.6 percent). Apple follows with 9.5 percent market share and RIM is ranked third with 15.2 percent share. Microsoft (4.4 percent) and Symbian (1.5 percent) close the top 5 list.
