Samsung Posts Record Numbers,Take on iPad







Samsung is now the world's largest smartphone maker churning out 28 million phones last quarter, according to data from Strategy Analytics.Samsung was officially the world's top technology firm by revenue, posted record quarterly profits of $5.15 billion on booming sales of its Galaxy smartphones and the Note, a mini-tablet and phone.
Samsung, which raced to the top of the global smartphone rankings last year with close to a fifth of the market, from just 3 per cent in 2009, should consolidate its position against Apple Inc and others with more product launches, including a revamped Galaxy S, over the next few months.
In the chart below you can see its unbelievable growth. It looks like the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy in June 2010 across all the major carriers was the main cause of its growth spurt.

IDC Smartphone Shipments Comparison Q3,2011., International Data Corp. reports that the worldwide smartphone market grew 42.6 percent in the third quarter of 2011 as compared to the same period in 2010, with Samsung now out in front as market leader. That’s lower than IDC’s forecast of 49.1 percent for the quarter, however, and it’s also lower than second quarter 2011’s 66.7 percent growth.The top five mobile phone vendors for the third quarter are – in order – Samsung, Apple, Nokia, HTC and Research in Motion
