UK Smartphone Penetration to overtake US in 2013 ?


Deloitte predicts the smartphone will become a mass market phenomenon and an everyday object worldwide The U.K. has one of the highest penetrations of smartphones of all the researched markets, according to Ofcom with 58 percent of the population owning a smartphone in 2012, and almost a fifth (19 percent) of U.K. residents owning a tablet.. Mobile users are driving this change: more smartphones are being shipped than PCs. As adoption grows, so does the use of the mobile web. Over 50% of new internet connections already come from mobile devices and its growing. Mobile searches have increased 4x since last year. 

Recent data from Techcrunch  shows that Internet shopping on mobiles is also on the rise — and the U.K. leads for online shopping generally (across all connected devices), with U.K. consumers now spending more than £1,000 per year buying stuff online.

 A recent Google commissioned UK study highlights findings on mobile consumer behavior reveals  four trends; 1)mobile users are seeking local information, searching with greater urgency than desktop, finding new ways to entertain themselves, and using phones as shopping companions

2) Take a closer look: 68% of local information seekers call or visit a business after looking up a local information on their smartphone.
3) 45% of smartphone shoppers report purchase decisions were influenced as a result of using a smartphone. 4)87% of smartphone users notice mobile ads
