10 Google Tweaks that might impact Your SERP's in 2012

Google Blog  recenlty mentioned about some key algorithm changes conducted during 2011  which might impact your search ranking in 2012 .Codenames “Panda” and “Caffeine, which had become household names for  search marketers in 2011 , now  can expect some more changes , like  last month’s “Top result selection code rewrite.” 
  • Image Search landing page quality signals. [launch codename “simple”]  The search pages for landing pages has been tweaked to show only the most  relevant images along with  highest quality source pages.canexpect 
  • More relevant sitelinks. [launch codename “concepts”, project codename “Megasitelinks”] Google has tweaks ed it algorithm for picking most relevant sitelinks 

  • Soft 404 Detection. Web servers generally return the 404 status code when someone requests a page that doesn’t exist. This change is an improvement to how we detect soft 404s, especially in Russian, German and Spanish.  We call these soft 404s (or “crypto” 404s) and they can be problematic for search engines  

  • More accurate country-restricted searches. [launch codename “greencr”] On domains other than .com, users have the option to see only results from their particular country. 
  • More rich snippets.  Google Algorithm can now  detect qualify for shopping, recipe and reviews with most ratings  As a result, you should start seeing more sites with rich snippets in search results.

  • Better spam detection in Image Search. [launch codename “leaf”] This change improves our spam detection in Image Search by extending algorithms  already use for our main search results.
  • Live results for NFL and college football. [project codename “Live Results”] We’ve added new live results for and ESPN’s NCAA Football results.
  • Related query improvements. [launch codename “lyndsy”] Sometimes we fetch results for queries that are related to the original query but have fewer words. We made several changes to our algorithms to make them more conservative and less likely to introduce results without query words.
  • Better lyrics results. [launch codename “baschi”, project codename “Contra”] This change improves our result quality for lyrics searches.
  • Tweak to +1 button on results page. This change should impact your social page optimization Now the +1 button will only appear when you hover over a result or when the result has already been +1’d.
  • Upcoming events at venues. We've improved the recently released places panel for event venues. For major venues, we now show up to three upcoming events on the right of the page. Try it for [staples center los angeles] or [paradise rock club boston].

1.)Rebecca Black: Rebecca Black's music video catapulted the then 13-year-old to celebrity status after the release of  her pop single “Friday " which went viral  with over 167 million views on YouTube.Searches for Rebecca Black a jumped 10,000% between 2010 and 2011, making the young pop singer the #1 fastest rising search on Google in 2011.” 

G   2.)Google Plus: The social network grabbed the #2 spot on Google’s list of fastest rising searches after Google+ and related searches like Google Plus shot up by 10,000%

  3.)Ryan Dunn:Best known for his daredevil stunts on the reality TV shows “Jackass” and “Viva La Bam,RyanDunn lost his life in a car accident on June 20, 2011 at the age of 34.The volume of searches for RYAN Dunn grew >10,000% in 2011, making him the third fastest rising search on Google

    4.)Casey Anthony: Searches for Casey Anthony and related searches like Casey Anthony Case grew 2,680% from 2010 to 2011, putting her into the #4 spot of fastest rising searches on Google.

 5.)Battlefield 3: Searches for Battlefield 3 and related searches BF3 jumped 1,773% between 2010 and 2011, making this action game the #5 fastest rising search on Google in 2011.
6.)Searches for iPhone 5 rose 1,658% between 2010 and 2011, making the rumored smartphone the #6 fastest rising search on Google.

 7.)Adele: Searches for Adele rose 1,588% between 2010 and 2011, making the singer the 7th top rising search on Google.


8.)The Japanese government ordered the evacuation of thousands of residents living near the 東京 電力 (TEPCO) Fukushima I Plant after the 2011 earthquake badly damaged several nuclear reactors. This news was  the 7th most searched onGoogle

9.)Steve Jobs: Death of steve Jobs led to  global outpouring of grief as users used social media and web to pay rich tributes  to the man. Searches for Steve Jobs grew 982% in 2011, making the creative genius the 9th fastest rising search on Google

1   10.)Searches for iPad 2 rose 939% between from 2010 to 2011, making the tablet the 10th fastest rising search on Google.
