Target to close 13 stores in US, just after closing down all 133 stores in canada

Target is ranked No. 16 in the Internet Retailer top 500 Ranking 

The second-largest discount retailer in the United States Target  is set to close down 13 of its stores across the US  due to the locations' poor performance. Eligible employees will be given the  option to move out or be transferred  to another location according to a company spokesperson .

Target had earlier laid off about 2,000 professional employees in a series of workforce reductions. Last January, the company also closed all 133 of its stores in Canada after failing to make enough revenue there.Currently Target as 1,799 U.S. stores.This is in contrast to one of its competitor Amazon which has announced that it will hire an additional 100,000 workers for the holiday season.Meanwhile the upcoming holiday season Target has started to offer customers free shipping during this years( see after the jump or click  below)

Target's Average U.S. Revenue per Square Foot has increased steadily from $280 in 2009 to $303 in 2014.

In time for the Holiday season Target Corp. is offering free shipping and returns on all online orders from Nov. 1 through Christmas Day.  This is the second straight holiday season that Target has offered free shipping on all online orders, though last year the promotion was offered only through Dec. 20. This is also the second time in recent months that Target has offered free shipping on all online orders to entice shoppers.

Meanwhile, Walmart reported its best Black Friday ever, processing approximately 10 million register transactions during a four-hour window on Thursday night, CEO of Walmart USA Bill Simon announced, with in-store traffic and sales remaining strong throughout Friday. Online, the company claims it received 400 million pageviews

2011 Holiday Retail Sales to Grow 2.8% To $465.6 Billion

According to the National Retail Federation’s 2011 Holiday Consumer Intentions Survey, conducted by BIGresearch, holiday shoppers say they plan to shell out an average of $704.18 on holiday gifts and seasonal merchandise, down slightly from last year’s $718.98.* NRF is still forecasting overall holiday retail sales to grow 2.8 percent during the months of November and December to $465.6 billion.

Additionally, nearly six in 10 holiday shoppers (59.9%) say they plan to take advantage of retailers’ sales and discounts to make additional non-gift purchases for themselves and their families during the holiday season. The average person will spend approximately $130.43 during the holiday season to take advantage of sales and discounts on apparel, electronics, home goods and other items for themselves or a family member, up from $112.20 last year.

According to the survey, the largest portion of a consumer’s holiday budget will go toward gifts for family members, with the average person expected to shell out $403.26 on kids, parents and other family members. Friends, co-workers and even the family pet can expect something nice this year as well; holiday celebrants will spend an average of $68.23 on friends, $21.06 on co-workers, and $23.39 on other gifts. Consumers will also spend on decorations ($46.73), greeting cards ($26.52), candy and food ($96.75), and flowers ($18.23.)

5.      The average savings per coupon used was $1.44 in 2010
6.      74% of consumers search multiple coupon sources each week
