After Reader, are Feedburner, Orkut and Alerts next for Google's abattoir? | Technology | Others however are more concerned about another big Google service: Google Alerts.

After pulling the plug on Google Reader, and with the knowledge that Google can  spring clean its products any time,  no matter how many subscribers or how many of us have signed the petition. Should we be worried ? . What about other Google services like " Google Alerts, Google Feed Reader, or even Orkut ? How Long will the last before Google decides to shut them down

The Answer is Yes, according to sources across the Technology world. In a  recent post  by Guardian titled " After Reader, are Feedburner, Orkut and Alerts next for  Google's abattoir?  It is obvious that Google is struggling with its products meant for the social web .

None of these products have got the traction and neither do they have very loyal committed subscribers, and its only a matter of time before the FeedBurner, Google Alerts and Orkut are next in the line to be shut down

Feedburner is obviously on its way to the abattoir. Its API was turned off on 20 October 2012, and while the service itself staggers on, "Feedburner's future's so dim, it could stare straight at the sun with impunity," in the words of Lex Friedman at PC World.

He also points out that Orkut  has gathering dust and it only time before Google Shuts its down completely

Others however are more concerned about another big Google service:Google Alerts. According to Guardian

"Reports about Google Alerts breakdown are all over the place (here, here, here, here, here and here for instance). How does Google respond? With trite, dismissive, evasive "customer service" crutches like, "Hi all, thanks for the update. We're currently investigating this."

Google, you know your Alerts system is busted, so why won't you fix it? Or is it your intent to slowly wean users off Google Alerts by deliberately making them less relevant, less frequent and less useful until one day you can just pull the plug entirely?"

The End of Orkut : Why Google will never succeed in Social Media

India now accounts for about 20% of Orkut's users. Over the past three years, Orkut has seen its position as the top social media website in India slip. It is now third-Facebook has over 52 million unique visitors every month, LinkedIn eight million and Orkut about four million. Microblogging site Twitter comes next with slightly lower 3.8 million users, according to internet data research firm Comscore.

Once a media darling Orkut has been steadily  going downfall and following the MySpace way  has  seen the numbers of its daily visitors dwindle nearly 86% over the last year, suggesting that it  the Google powered Social Network is all ready to be bought over or sold to the largest bidder. Either way this once confirms what “ most of us “  already know ..Google ‘s experiments in social media has been more than a disaster. After shutting down more than 10 social products over the last   4 years

If you have  some memories of Orkut  left with you.. which you had  during those times in 2006 and 2007 , its time to bid goodbye to the once popular social network sites
Orkut was  Google's first foray into social media  and during its early hears ( 2005-2007) brazil and Indian users formed a bulk of its users and it had  its second-largest user base in India after Brazil. But the number of daily visitors from India has fallen from about 14 lakh a year ago to just about two lakh now, according to Google Trends.
