with $19million valuation ,snapchat ranks 3rd among top 5 unicorns

5  The second coming of snapchat: sequoia, meritech, spark  invests $1.8billion as valuation jumps to $18billion

"with $19 million, snapchat among top 3 unicorn after Xiaomi and Uber"

At $19 billion, Snapchat would rank third among all venture-backed companies in terms of value, behind Xiaomi and Uber

Snapchat has recently secured $1.8bn in funding, increasing its valuation to $18bn. The startup received this round of funding from Sequoria Capital, Spark Capital, Meritech Capital Partners and Dragoneer Investment Group. This valuation is higher than the previous valuation of Snapchat given by its investors in March 2015, which was about $16bn.

Previously, Snapchat had received $175m funding from Fidelity Investments for an overall valuation of $16bn. Shares of Snapchat were bought by the investors for about $30.72 per share. Experts say that the venture capital firms Sequoria and Spark are reluctant to invest in tech companies.
Reportedly, even Chinese company Alibaba also wanted to invest about $200m in Snapchat, after its $16bn valuation last year.
These companies are said to be investing in Snapchat as many investors believe the app firm has the potential to overtake other social media giants such as Facebook and Twitter.

snapchat's $19 billion valuation means that in terms of pure valuation among the unicorn companies , Snapchat would rank third among all venture-backed companies in terms of value, behind Xiaomi and Uber. If you took its reported valuation as a (very) rough proxy for what it would fetch on the public market, Snapchat would sit among some very big, and very profitable, companies listed on US stock exchanges:

" how much do Uber drivers earn from each trip"

How Much  Money are Uber drivers making per trip

Uber  has completed a new round of funding that values the five-year-old ride-hailing company at close to $51 billion. So how much do you think an average driver can make "using it as an alternate career move"
1)According to Uber, last year the median wage for an UberX driver working at least 40 hours a week in New York City averaged to about $43 an hour, which was revised by Uber in early 2015 to $30 / hour.(source)

  • Uber last year infamously claimed many of its drivers made more than $90,000 per year, but it did not account for the cost of driver expenses like gas and car maintenance
  • However the money they make depends on the areas they drive across US.In LA an average uber driver makes between $20-$25 an hour. In New York drivers make over $30 an hour. Driving full-time, the average Uber driver in the U.S. can make around $40,000 net a year (after expenses and taxes ( source )
  •  New York City, Austin, and San Francisco were the most profitable per-trip locations. Chicago, Baltimore, and Nashville were the least profitable. New York City was  the most lucrative circuit  .The average New York city trip was on average 106.6% over the national average for the five-month period.

How UBER is eating its competitors for breakfast lunch and dinner :

This is how  cab aggregator "UBER" is marching ahead in the market

Uber is having yellow, green and yes service cabs and taxis for breakfast lunch and dinner. The chart from WSJ shows how " Uber has begun to disrupt this model
" How under has started disrupting local economy"

"Uber market share around the world"

Uber Now is present across  63 countries across the world, out of which according to a Wall Street Journal post says that “an average 46 percent of all total paid car rides were through Uber” in major markets across the U.S. That’s a steep rise from a mere 15 percent in the first quarter of 2014. Meanwhile, the percentage of rides in taxis, limos and shuttles fell from 85 percent to 53 percent over the same period.

Looking back " the  challenge which local mom and pop cab services "it seems is a grand old throwback to " newspaper vs internet days.. when the newspaper  industry never really accepted the " fact that " new media can supplant them and make them" irrelevant. As web continued to dominate  and penetrate new markets, gaining volume.... Consumers had already moved on from newspapers to news portals, specific niches ( tabloids) or online magazine subscription. And by the time the newspaper industry read the riot act... it was too late . and no little to be done anyways..The market had changed

Uber is now available in 58 countries and 300 cities worldwide, and recent estimates place its value in the region of $50bn. All of which rather leaves its competition with two choices… Adapt, or die.”
