40% Increase in Mobile Mapping Usage

In France, the use of maps on mobile phones has shown a strong growth as the service gained 40 percent new users over the past year according to latest ComScore data.  Map usage on PCs grew at a much smaller rate of 6.2 percent. Although, the total user numbers show a different story. In May 2011, nearly 6 million mobile users accessed a map compared to 23 million PC users, almost 4 times as many.
The services most used on mobile as well as from PCs were Google Maps, Mappy and ViaMichelin.

Photos and Video Mobile Users Across Age Groups

Teen cell phone owners in the 14-17 age group are slightly more likely to take photos than those ages 12-13 (85% vs. 77%). This older category of teens is also somewhat more likely to send/receive photos than the younger group of teens (67% vs. 56%). However, there is an interesting counter-trend, with more 12-13 year-olds sending/receiving video than those 14 and older (41% vs. 27%). Read more in Teens and Mobile Phones (2010).

Gender Differences On Mobile Call Duration: On average, female mobile phone users talk 28% more than men, spending 818 minutes per month compared to 640 minutes per month. In addition, female mobile phone users text 29% more than men, sending and receiving an average of 716 texts per month compared to 555 for male user

Voice Vs Text :The number of monthly voice minutes used by US mobile phone owners remained fairly stable between January 2005 and September 2010, ranging between roughly 600 and 700 throughout the year. However, the average number of monthly SMS texts rose from less than 100 to more than 600 by year’s end (figures based on MarketingCharts analysis of Nielsen chart).
