Managers Turnover in England's Premier League

How the
MANCHESTER UNITED'S win at the weekend gives an early hint that business will continue as usual in this new season of Premier League football. The club's boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, is not only the most successful manager in the league's history, but also the only one to have kept his job since its inception in 1992, when England's top clubs broke away from the ruling Football League. The common perception is that the blood-letting of top coaches has become ever more frequent. But in fact Premier-League managers tend to keep their jobs for longer than their counterparts in the lower divisions. Of the ten longest-serving managers in the top four divisions of English football, five ply their trade in the Premier League. And in the 1994-95 season, a sort of annus horribilis when the Premier League lost 14 managers, the two divisions below lost 16 and 22 managers respectively. Since 1992, 280 managers from the second tier and 240 from the third have left their clubs, while the Premier League has lost just 150, a figure comparable with the 160 or so who left jobs in the top flight in the previous two ( economist )

50% Social Media Referral Traffic in US Comes From Stumbleupon

According to StatCounter's measurements, StumbleUpon has just surpassed Facebook and now delivers more than half of all social media referral traffic in the U.S. StumbleUpon founder and CEO Garrett Camp tweeted the news this afternoon.

Facebook achieved this goal in April of 2010, but StumbleUpon was already well on its way. At that time, StumbleUpon already gave twice as many referrals as Twitter. StumbleUpon's user experience is fanciful and fun, but its traffic power for publishers is quite serious. While the other social networks make the headlines, StumbleUpon has been a quiet success story.

StumbleUpon uses collaborative filtering (an automated process combining human opinions with machine learning of personal preference) to create virtual communities of like-minded Web surfers. Rating Web sites update a personal profile (a blog-style record of rated sites) and generate peer networks of Web surfers linked by common interest. These social networks coordinate the distribution of Web content, so that users "stumble upon" pages explicitly recommended by friends and peers.

April 13 2009: founders Garrett Camp and Geoff Smith and other investors including Ram Shriram bought the company.

May 2010: Reaches more than 10,000,000 members

August 2011 :StumbleUpon reached 25 billion stumble mark, at which point they were adding over one billion stumbles per month.

Online Retail Sites :Global Usage and Response Times : 2011 Vs 2010

A recent ComScore report analyzed some of the largest global retail and auction sites with a specific look at how these sites are penetrating various geographic regions. Among destinations included in the study, Amazon Sites and Worldwide Sites showed more globally distributed audiences compared to most other brands in the study. Amazon Sites attracted 35.4% of its audience from North America, while Europe contributed 31.8% of visitors and Asia Pacific accounted for 24.1%. Similarly, Worldwide Sites attracted 32.0% of its visitors from North America, while Europe contributed 29.6% of visitors and Asia Pacific accounted for 24.9%.

On the other hand, China’s Corporation (85.7% and Japan’s Rakuten, Inc. (72.7%) reach sourced the vast majority of their traffic from the Asia Pacific region. Of the 10 selected sites, Mercado Libre showed the strongest concentration of visitors from a single region with 93.3% of its audience from Latin America, where it ranked as the top retail player in the region.

In 2010 Retail sites were most popular among Canadians in Q3 2010, reaching 89 percent of Canada’s online audience. United Kingdom closely followed with an 88-percent reach and United States came in third with 86 percent.

Lawsuits Against Motorola :The Road Ahead

Google's acquisition of Motorola Mobility will not affect Motorola's patent-related lawsuits against Apple, as the search company revealed on Monday it has no plans to rescind those legal complaints.
Owning Motorola’s 17,000 issued patents and 7,500 pending patents was one of the major reasons Google announced its acquisition plans for the company. Owning Motorola doesn’t come without its fair share of baggage, however. Not only does Motorola have a troubled financial history, it also has a troubling number of patent lawsuits on its books.
CNET has created a nice infographic showing a portion of the large number of patent infringement suits currently filed against Motorola, and its lawsuits against others. When the purchase was announced, Google stated that Motorola’s suits and defense would continue to be managed by the company’s own legal team. Still, here’s what Google will be up against. 

Motorola will continue to operate as a separate entity under Google, building handsets running Android as it has done before. And the company will also continue to pursue any litigation it is involved in, Google Chief Legal Officer David C. Drummond said in a conference call.

Statistics On Tablet Usage :Trends and Insights

A survey conducted by Google's AdMob offers insights into what people are doing with their tablets, where, and for how long.

The statistics indicate that tablet owners are shifting their time away from TVs and PCs to consume more and more content on iPads, Galaxy Tabs, and other slate devices.

The most popular activity on tablets? Gaming, followed closely by search and email. The survey, which polled 1,430 people in the U.S. in March 2011, found that 84% of tablet owners play games on their tablets, 78% search for information, 74% use it for email, and 61% read the news. The two least popular activities, according to the survey, are shopping and reading e-books, with just 42% and 46% of users, respectively, say they use their tablets for these purposes.

Tablets are used mostly in the home, rather than at work, which perhaps explains why most people say they use tablets more frequently at night (62%) and during the week (69%). Eighty-two percent of the people surveyed said they use their tablets primarily at home, while only 7% use the devices mostly at work.
