Consumer Goods Marketing increasingly Moving to Social Media

During February 2012, 27.5% of the 73.7 billion UK ad impressions were socially-published*. The category with the highest share of ads published on social networking sites was Consumer Goods with 40.1 percent of their total display ad impressions being socially-published. The second ‘most social’ category was Media & Entertainment, with 35.7 percent of their total ad impressions being published on social networking sites such as Facebook or LinkedIn.

One of the advertisers placing the highest share of ads in the UK was KX Energy Drink  with 89.3 percent  of their total impressions being socially published in 2011. .Facebook now has 50% of the words social media ad revenue at $1.76 billion in 2010, that’s up 165% from 2009.

A comScore analysis of online ad impressions from July shows CPGs have become the heaviest users of "socially enabled" ads that appear on sites outside Facebook but include "visit us on Facebook" or other "Click to Facebook" appeals to get users to brand pages.
