Android's Biggest Market : Europe or Latin America

Interestingly the UK is one of the last few markets where Blackberry holds any significant market share (Canada is another). Android is the big winner in the UK increasing its share by 10% to bump it up to second place behind market leader Apple.

 In the USA Apple has strengthened its position increasing market share slightly in the past year (8% increase), while Android has remained level. Blackberry continued its decline in the US and now holds less than 2% market share.

 Countries such as Germany, Spain and France have all increased their Android market share, however some of the biggest increases have happened in countries such as Brazil and China where Android’s market share has increased by 26% and 50% respectively. Russia has seen a sharp drop in Nokia’s market share with the Finnish handset maker losing 19 points over the past 12 months and Android picking up the majority of that loss (up 18 points).

Worldwide, Android is leading the charge making impressive gains in the last year (up 14%). Apple sits in second place with 26% of the market as Nokia slips down into third with 22%. Overall we are seeing Android’s market share increase in a large proportion of countries around the world, especially in developing markets.

Android dominates 50% Mobile OS in Europe according to Kantar Media Report

The latest data from 2012, August  Kantar Worldpanel ComTech shows that for the first time Android hastaken at least half of smartphone sales in Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, US

and Australia.* Android's share now ranges from 49.6% in Italy to a massive 84.1% in Spain.









UK Leads Online Retail Penetration , Mobile Web Traffic in Europe


In Europe, the average internet user spent 25.9 .UK tops with first rank with  an average user spending 39.0 hours in the month. The Netherlands ranked second with an average user spending 29.4 hours online.


UK leads in Non  PC traffic  and Mobile browser-based internet traffic in Europe with the  highest share at 16.4% . Other markets at or above the 10 percent mark are Ireland (11.5%), Russia (10.4%) and Norway (10.0%).

Nearly 80 percent (314.6 million users) of the European internet audience accessed online retail site out of which  UK ranks number 1 in terms of using web for   online  retail . Comscore data  shows online retail penetration of these sites showed the UK (94.2 percent reach) and Ireland (93.8 percent) leading the way. France (89.0 percent), Germany (87.6 percent) and Netherlands (84.2 percent) rounded up the top 5. The UK and Ireland also rank first globally.

The UK also ranked first for engagement (101.1 minutes per user on average) with France (70.7 minutes) and Netherlands (69.0 minutes) completing the top 3 markets in Europe for engagement with sites like Amazon and Apple.

Europe Web Usage in 2012: Retail, Sports and News among the most visited category


The typical EU consumer spends the equivalent of a day (an average of 25.9 hours), online per month. Here’s a snapshot of what 397 million Europeans are doing to fill their time.
3 in 4 Europeans visited a Retail site during June 2012. Over 62% of the European internet audience visited a Games site in the month. Social Networking was the most engaging activity, accounting for 1 in every 4 minutes spent online in June.

Social Media Vs Smartphone Usage in Europe:








Europe has Highest Proportion of Social Networking Activity Worldwide .Apart from Facebook which is no 1   the  2nd and 3rd players are dominated by Local sites.



Smartphone Marketshare in Europe is led by Symbian, Android and iOs, with RIM and Microsoft in the 2nd and 3rd place.










In the EU5, smartphone adoption has reached nearly 42 percent an increase of 13 percentage points over the past year. The highest penetrated market is Spain (48.4 percent), followed closely by the UK (48.1 percent). In Italy 42.1 percent of mobile owners used a smartphone, while in France penetration was a bit lower at 38.1 percent. Germany currently shows the lowest penetration of smartphones with only 34.2 percent, but the growth rate is the highest amongst the European countries with a 64 percent increase in the number of smartphone users within the past year.
