The chart shows  Alibaba group compared to other related US companies who are into similar business . Alibaba Chinese e-commerce giant,dwarfs its competitors with hundreds of millions of users, is bigger than eBay and Amazon combined. Alibaba  ha  2 big  distributees which are Taobao, a consumer-to-consumer marketplace launched to compete with eBay in China, and Taobao Mall (or Tmall), an Amazon-like marketplace which allows Chinese consumers to purchase directly from brands. Meanwhile  Juhuasuan, a groupon equivalent  is into deal buying .Launched by former English teacher Jack Ma in 1998, the company has grown exponentially, feeding the appetite of a growing consumer class in China for products from Nike sneakers to high-end jewelry not readily available in stores

"2014 was an absolutely massive year for eCommerce in Asia as companies in the region raised $11.5B across 367 equity financing.Chinese eCommerce start ups last year  saw over 120 equity deals being closed , followed by India  which saw over  100 eCommerce VC funding being closed  in 2014 

Meanwhile this year 2015 would determine how many of the new start ups flush with investors money have the " guts passion and the the right risk taking skills to take them to the next level

Retail ecommerce sales in Australia will rise 14.4% this year to pass $10 billion, in 2015 according to eMarketer’s latest estimates of retail sales, online and offline, around the globe. In 2014, ecommerce sales in the country increased 17.3% to account for over 4% of total retail sales, 

Meanwhile total retail  in Australia reached  $231billion, in 2014  which is expected to  reach  $238.59 billion  this year,a 3% increase in 2015

Brazil  spends 14% on  digital spending as compared to total media spends of $18.8bilion. Mexico spends 20% on digital spends with$1billion spent on digital compared to $4.94 total media spends. This makes Mexico the  number 1 country compared to Brazil Argentina and India with the highest ratio of digital spends vs total media spends 

India  and  Argentina's digital spends is $740 and $460 million respectively , though India is ranked 2nd in media spending  just after  Brazil with $6.11 billion.

According to  Ad Age, Amazon alone spent almost $158 million on Google search advertising in the U.S.   making the online retailer the biggest spender on Google search ads by far. The second biggest advertiser is Priceline which spends $82million on search advertising on Google, followed by AT and T with $81million

Japanese Digital Shoppers Still Prefer PC to Smartphones

As connected devices continue to power online shopping and mobile commerce across the world . One country has  been an exception .Japan consumers still favour the good old PC . 

Infact PCs are the overwhelming favourite for digital shoppers in Japan, according to latest research study conducted in Jan 2015 by  Lifemedia Research Bank. Nearly nine in 10 digital shoppers said they used PCs for the purpose, vs. 22.6% who used smartphones and 5.5% who used tablets. -A majority said they preferred to shop on a PC, with only about a third declaring a preference for smartphones. - .

Return Fraud during holidays exceed $10.9billion

The Online retail industry will lose an estimated $10.9 billion due to fraud returns by consumers . This is an 10% increase m an estimated $9.1 billion last year.

 Additionally, of those surveyed, retailers estimate $3.6 billion will be lost to return fraud this holiday season alone, similar to last year’s $3.4 billion. Overall, retailers polled estimate 5.5% percent of holiday returns are fraudulent, similar to last year’s 5.8 %

33% Online Shopping driven by Mobile during Thanksgiving

US Black Friday online sales grew  8% . However Thanksgiving was partially better During Thanksgiving online sales overall were up by 14% compared to Thanksgiving 2013. But the average order value  per consumer was actually down. 

IBM data reveals that average order pers sales was $125.25, versus $132 a year ago.Thats a drop of 7% compared go thanksgiving last year .IBM adds that the very biggest physical retailers — department stores — saw online sales grow by 29.8% over last year, but their average order value of $139.53 was down by 2.45% compared to last year..

BBC News - US Black Friday sales fall 11% on sluggish demand: "US retailers reported sluggish Black Friday spending, with sales falling 11% from the same period last year, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF).

US consumers spent on average $380.95 per person, down 6.4% from a year ago. The NRF attributed the decline to shifting consumer habits, such as earlier promotions and the growth of online shopping."

However Online Sales  grew by Up 8.5% over 2013, as Mobile Shopping  giving huge push to online shoppingAccording to  to ShopperTrak,  Black Friday shopping at brick-and-mortar stores in the United States was down about 7 percent from a year , with Friday store sales hiting $9.1 billionOverall, total holiday weekend sales were estimated to be $50.9bn.

While consumers  by and large  use both Smartphones, tablets and PC for buying, There are some difference in buying patters .Retail consumers who research on their smartphones tend to purchase almost equally across smartphones (23%), tablets (20%) and laptops (21%), 

whereas consumers who research via laptops and tablets tend to purchase on the same device (46% and 58%, respectively). 

While the majority of retail consumers (63%) who research in-store also purchase in-store, 20% rely on mobile devices (smartphones and laptops) to make their final purchases.

Americans spent $46.55 billion  during  their holiday shopping in 2013  . Compare this  with 20o5 when online sales during holidays  touched $19.6 billion. Thats a 100% growth in 8 years .

Meanwhile 2008 saw a dip in  holiday eCommerce   as the housing bubble and global financial markets took a heavy toll on the US economy. As compared to 2007, in which US consumers splurged  $29.2 billion on eCommerce, during 2008  holiday ecommerce sales fell to $28billion
