 Harley-Davidson's global motorcycle revenue amounted to around 5.9 billion US dollars in  2013 compared to 6.2 billion in 2014 .The company   dealers managed to sell 267,999 new Harley-Davidson® motorcycles, a 2.7% over 2013, led by a 5.4% 
 increase in international sales.
Net income increased 15 percent as consolidated revenue topped $6 billion for the first time since 2006.Retail unit sales for 2014 were up 1.3 percent in the U.S., 11.8 percent in the Asia Pacific region, 6.4 percent in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region, 2.1 percent in the Latin America region.

 Leading the list is the FMCG giant Procter and Gamble who according to adweek has reportedly increased their marketing budgets  by 5% this year. Comcast and General Motors are ranked 2nd and 3rd in terms of ad spends on marketing and promotion. While AT and T and L'oreal makes up the number 4 and 5 respectively (These spends are overall marketing spends which include online and mobile)

Historically aparels as product categories  grew by  20%  across the online retail category as compared with 14% growth  in consumer electronics. Data from comscore research shows that Consumer Packaged Goods  lead the product category  which generated a growth of 27% in 2014.

Apple reveals its ipod sales in US

 This chart from statista shows Apple iPod touch sales in the United States from the third quarter of 2007 to the second quarter of 2012 .The Apple  iPod was released first in 2001 and since  the initial release, the iPod has developed and evolved and at present there are 4 different versions available on the market: the iPad Nano, iPod Shuffle, iPod touch and iPod classic. While the market for MP3 players has been declining Apple has and continues to dominate sales and market share in this area  . During the above time Apple has sold 46.5 million iPod touch units in the US between the device's introduction in 2007 and the second quarter of 2012

The 2013, pre-holiday advertising  saw  33% ad  spend for the apparel, cookware and tech categories
However  during the core shopping days from Black Friday, Christmas and cyber monday  the biggest  ad spends and splurge in  came from  Jewellery  Video Games , and toys. The fourth-quarter ad spend ac these areas represented a whopping 60%, 52% and 56% share of 2013 ad spend, respectively.."

Procter and Gamble to invests 30% of media spend in digital

Consumer Goods giant Procter and Gamble is   moving more of  its ad dollars into the digital medium, thereby investing almost a third of its media spend in digital, social and mobile as it looks for ways to improve marketing efficiency

 Executives of Procter & Gamble Co. and Mondelez International both said their companies now spend about a quarter of their U.S. media budgets on digital and plan to keep growing that share as they see improving return on investment. 


 P&G's global brand  head  ,Marc Pritchard  had recently explained about how it has shifted its mindset to “digital back” - campaigns that start in the digital world and build back into the rest of the marketing mix. P&G has previously said that is spends around 35 per cent of its US media budget on digital but has not released a figure for the business overall..


The focus on marketing efficiency comes as P&G, which owns Olay, Pantene and Duracell, saw  declining last quarter with .PG revenues were up by mere 5%YoY   to $22.28bn, down from 2 per cent growth in the previous two quarters. Profits were down almost 16 per cent to $3.43bn.

Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster, who has been tracking iphone sales since its debut in 2007  that Friday's launch of the iPhone 5 in the U.S. was the biggest ever.Munster has predicted iphone 5  sales tp cross  8 million  on 2st to 23rd septembe,2012  weekend.

Going by  this trend   Apple can  expect to sell 49 million iPhones in the December quarter. The only caveat, he said, is whether Apple can make the phones fast enough to meet demand.

The iPhone 5 Assembly Line : How Much will it sell




               
Gene Munster is raising his September iPhone estimates from 22 million to 27.2 million units given the confirmation of the iPhone 5 launch on September 21. As previously noted, he believes that Apple could sell between 6-10 million iPhone 5s by the end of September. Munster notes the company sold 4 million iPhone 4GS’s in its three day launch weekend last year. 

Historically, first-weekend sales of new iPhones have ramped up significantly with the debut of each successive model. The iPhone 3GS sold more than one million units during its first weekend at market. The iPhone 4 sold more than 1.7 million. And the iPhone 4S sold more than four million.

 Apple is expected  to report sales of between 22 million and 23 million iPhones during the September quarter. But if Apple ships its next-generation iPhone on Sept. 21, as expected, sales could be even higher.
According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, iPhone sales for the period could range between 26 million and 28 million units, with the bulk of that increase occurring the week of Sept. 21.

China Leads Global Smartphone Shipments with 22%,surpasses US with 16%




According to  Canalys  Mobile Shipments report estimates by country for Q1 2012. shows that shipments in China doubled and overtook those in the US for the first time. In Q1, China represented 22% of global smart phone shipments, while the US accounted for 16%. A year earlier these figures were the other way around. Of the top 10 countries for smart phones, half are now in the Asia Pacific region.

3)Social  media savvy consumers (frequent users of at least one social media tool, including Facebook, Twitter, mobile phone applications such as Foursquare, Twitter and Yelp)  are more active that users who do not use social web .

4)These early adopters dine out more frequently than the general public: 92 percent eat a meal at a sit-down restaurant at least once a month (compared with 84 percent of all adults) and 87 percent purchase a meal or snack quickservice restaurant or carry-out place at least once a month (versus 83 percent of all adults). .

5)Social media savvy individuals are also more likely to connect with restaurants on Facebook, MySpace or YouTube (29 percent, compared with 16 percent of all consumers), and post or read reviews on consumer-driven websites such as Yelp (30 percent, compared with 19 percent). 
 The restaurant industry will continue to fuel U.S. employment in the year ahead as the nation’s second largest private sector employer. Overall restaurant industry employment will reach 12.9 million in 2012, representing 10 percent of the total U.S. workforce.

U.K. online apparel sales to grow 60% by 2015

U.K. consumers looking to buy apparel increasingly are trading bricks-and-mortar shops for online stores, according to a new report from Mintel.

According to The market research firm Internetretailer , more than a third of U.K. consumers, 34%, shopped online for clothes in 2010, up from 25% in 2009. The company attributes the marked uptick in online apparel shopping last year to several well-known U.K. retail chains launching or improving their web sites and to consumers’ increased access to the web.

U.K. consumers spent 4.3 billion pounds ($7.01 billion) online buying apparel in 2010. Mintel projects sales will reach 4.8 billion pounds ($7.83 billion) by the end of 2011, an 11.6% increase, and 6.9 billion pounds ($11.25 billion) by 2015, a 60.5% increase over the 2010 spending level and a 9.9% compound annual growth rate for 2010-2015.

The top 10 merchants in Internet Retailer’s Europe Top 300 account for 23.2% of all online retail sales on the continent, but it’s Amazon that dominates. In 2010, Amazon accounted for 16.3%—9.36 billion euros (US$13.1 billion)—of the online sales of all Europe Top 300 retailers.

ith sales growth the biggest challenge for business leaders in 2011, many say they are planning to deploy cloud technologies this year, hoping to shorten sales cycles and acquire new business, according to a survey from Hatsize

Roughly three in five surveyed business leaders (61%) say their greatest challenges in 2011 are growth-related, citing direct sales (42%), channel sales (7%), competitive differentiation (7%), and product launches (4%).

Only 9% of business leaders are now focused on cutting costs./The chart above sums up , other findings from the Hatsize survey of 181 US business executives.

Motorola Xoom Sales Fails To take off

It seems that  there is no unanimity about  how  well Motorola Xoom  are being received in the marketplace .According to Analyst Peter Misek of Jefferies & Company tells ZDNet that Motorola’s tablet, even with its higher-resolution screen and faster processor than the Apple iPad 2, is not exactly flying off the shelves:
“Xoom sales have been underwhelming. While marketing has just started we believe MMI will likely have to cut production if it already has not done so. We believe the device has been a bit buggy and did not meet the magic price point of $500. We believe management knows this and is hurrying development and production of lower cost tablets. Importantly we believe management will likely have to make the painful decision to accept little to no margin initially in order to match iPad 2’s wholesale pricing.”
However .According to Sanjay Jha, CEO of Motorola, Xoom sales are “off to a good start”. Though he did not divulge exact sales numbers to the group of financial analysts he was addressing at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference.
The 10.1 incher Motorola Zoom  from Verizon is selling at $800 without contract and $600 with a 2 year customer agreement. Compared to a high-end version of iPad (that’s not 3G) at $729, Motorola Xoom has more of everything – NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 dual core processor, 10.1 inch HD touchscreen, Wi-Fi, 3G, Honeycomb, and a whole lot more. And it’s going to get Adobe Flash 10 Support and 4G support in an update soon
Last year Motorola Mobility sold apparently two million smart phones to China. The  Xoom powered by ‘Honeycomb’ is the first among the tablet computers to hit the market. It is specially designed for the devices like Internet powerhouse Google and has emerged as one of the major competitors of Apple’s iPad which was ruling the market till now. Xoom has been priced at $800 but there is every chance that it will be reduced to $600 for the ones who enter into a contract with Verizon for two-years.
