State of Digital Landscape in France

1)There were 45,262,000 internet users in France (representing 69.5% of the population) in June 2011, according to (Internet world Stats, August 2011)  

2)Of Europe's 372 million unique visitors, France accounted for 42.4 million unique visitors during August 2011.This represents 11% of Europe
3)Users in France spent an average of 24.7 hours online in the past month, consuming 2,484 pages online. (comScore, October 2011)  

4)40.8 million people will use the internet in France by 2013, according to eMarketer. This would be up from 37 million in 2009.  

Projected Growth in Internet users in France 2008-2013:

  1. 2008: 35.2 million
  2. 2009: 37.0 million
  3. 2010: 38.2 million
  4. 2011: 39.1 million
  5. 2012: 40.0 million
  6. 2013: 40.8 million
Total  internet users in France  is expected to  increase  from 35 million, in 2008 to 41 million in 2013, which is an 87% increase in 5 years. This makes France one of the biggest online nations in Europe

Google Ventures is the venture capital investment arm of Google Inc. that makes strategic investments in technology companies. Google Ventures seeks to invest in start-up companies in a variety of fields ranging from Internet, software, and hardware to clean-tech, bio-tech, and health care.

Google is maintaining a torrid acquisition pace in 2010 with 23 acquisitions year-to-date (with over one quarter still to go).  The year’s total is equivalent to Google’s cumulative acquisition total from 2007 to 2009.  Using CB Insights M&A data, we broke down Google’s acquisition activity over time and looked at 2010 specifically by sector, industry and by focus area of the targets.
After a brief respite during the recession in 2008 and 2009, Google appears to be making up for lost time with this year’s acquisition levels as can be seen below which shows the company’s acquisition activity since 2001.  More interesting, however, is what sectors Google is focused on as can be seen in the second graph.( source: cbinsights)

Organic Search Statistics: Infographic




An April 2010 study by comScore found:
  • Google led the U.S. core search market in April with 64.4 percent of the searches conducted, followed by Yahoo at 17.7 percent, and Microsoft at 11.8 percent
  • Americans conducted 15.5 billion searches in April. Google accounted for 10 billion searches, followed by Yahoo at 2.8 billion, and Microsoft at 1.8 billion

Google's Data Centers: All You Wanted to Know

For Those who have seen different websites popping up across different computers,when you use the same search term, and if you have got increasingly bewildered by this happening. It .is finally the time to lay your be-wilderness to rest. This happens because Google has many data centers where the entire web which its Bots searched are stored. So Imagine billion of tons of data stored by Google do not get updates at the same time. The time taken for a new search ranking yo get update might be not the same as the data travels to one data center to another. As the Crawler “crawl” the Internet, storing a copy of every web page encountered. Aftwer that Google's Algorithm  , indexes each page based on the information it contains.

When you do a Google search, it looks up your search terms in our index and then list the web pages that best match your search. This entire process takes place in their data centers.

Google is not  very open about their Data Centers, as  believes its data center provide them a competitive advantage,which is not easy for other competitors to duplicate and scale in a short time . To help maintain secrecy, Google typically seeks permits for its data center projects using Limited Liability Corporations (LLCs) that don’t mention Google, such as Lapis LLC (North Carolina) or Tetra LLC (Iowa Data center in action

All the indexing and processing that goes into answering the millions of searches  at Google is done on computers in the  data centers, for which Google needs a large number of raw computing power along with lots of computers to do it, and lots of data centers to house those computers.  They monitor, diagnose, fix, and replace all of the data center’s machines and systems as needed, so Google can provide fast and reliable services around the clock to our millions of users.

Acoording to Techcrunch,Royal Pingdom has Mapped together this map of all known Google data centers, including spaces it leases and that are under construction. The maps are based on this list compiled by Data Center Knowledge. There are 36 data centers in all—19 in the U.S., 12 in Europe, 3 in Asia, and one each in Russia and South America. Future data center sites may include Taiwan, Malaysia, Lithuania, and Blythewood, South Carolina, where Google has reportedly bought 466 acres of land. Many in the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) community track progress in Google’s search results by checking some of the more than 500 IP addresses used by the Google search engine. Comparing Google search results from these different IP addresses can identify updates in Google’s index, especially changes in PageRank.

Bing off to a Good Start: Google loses 6% market share


With Bing, Microsoft is definitely trying to make a difference in the search engine market and for a change it seems that Microsoft has at last realized that a product (search engine) that works truly well is the greatest viral marketing a brand can ever hope to achieve

What is interesting, though, is that Bing is mostly taking market share from Google, while the stats for Yahoo Search and AOL have remained stable. According to StatCount, Bing reached a 15.6% market share in the U.S. yesterday (Live Search never made it past 7%), while Google's share was down almost 6%.

Worldwide, StatCounter also sees Bing ahead of Yahoo, but only by less than half a percent (5.17% vs. 5.56%).

Some of this new interest in Microsoft's search engine was definitely driven by curiosity, but unlike other (failed) entries into the search engine market like Cuil, Bing actually delivers as a search engine, which should help Microsoft to retain a good chunk of these users.

Of course, Microsoft's $80 million advertising blitz is definitely helping Bing as well, and based on our own experience, it is clear that Bing's marketing and PR campaign is reaching a lot of non-geeks and late adopters who would not typically go out of their way to try a new search engine."
