Nokia still top phonemaker in India | ZDNet: The total shipments of mobile handsets in India reached 102.4 million units during the first half of 2012, which showed 16.9 percent growth during the six-month period. with Nokia continuing to rule as no 1 Mobile Vendor in India with with 22.2% of the total mobile shipments
In a recent study by CyberMedia Research (CMR), the period between January and June 2012 saw 102.4 million units of mobile handsets shipped in India, with 5.5 million of these smartphones.
By comparison, smartphones grew at 12.2 percent. Samsung trailed the Nokia with 13 percent of total unit shipments, while local manufacturer Micromax came in at 5.5 percent.
The Indian mobile handset market is estimated to reach 251 million units in 2013, an increase of 13.5% over this year, according to a global research firm. The mobile handset market is expected to show steady growth through 2016 when end-user sales will surpass 326 million units, as per estimates from Connecticut- based Gartner Inc.
