Windows 8 to Command 11% Media Tablet sales by 2016






IDC is projecting a  6% market share for Windows 8 in 2013, totalling less than 10 million tablets .Windows tablets  includes (Windows 7 and Windows RT and Windows 8 tablets) shipping in the fourth quarter of 2012) are expected to grow from about 1% of the market in 2011 to 4% in 2012, on their way to 11% of the market by 2016. 
Meanwhile according to a  new report from BI Intelligence. Global tablet sales will exceed 450 million units by 2016, 
Global tablet sales in 2016 will exceed the number of PCs currently sold per year (~350 million) and make tablets a $130+ billion market.

Consumer Intention to Buy "Surface Tablet" falls 53%





According to a new survey of U.S. households with broadband access published Thursday by Parks Associates shows that Apple continues to lead the market with the biggest pie coming from iPad,and for the first time, more U.S. broadband households plan to purchase a tablet for the holidays than a laptop, netbook or Ultrabook
Interest in the Surface fell 53% after its price was announced - Apple 2.0 - Fortune Tech: - Consumer preferences in one of this holiday's hottest categories -- tablet computers -- shifted pretty dramatically between the third and fourth quarters (Q3,Q4,2012)
According to' John Barrett of park associates the most dramatic shift, however, was the fall-off in potential Surface buyers.
"Consumers initially expressed interest in the Microsoft Surface," Barett said, "but once pricing and product details were announced, holiday intentions to purchase a Microsoft Surface dropped to 21% in Q4 from 45% in Q3."12% said they planned to buy a Google  Nexus and 21% a Microsoft Surface
Apple continues to rule the market with the mini ipad,likely to take away marketshare from Kindle and Surface (microsoft).

Microsoft's Surface Tablet RT: How it Compares to the iPad: "So how does the Surface tablet stack up against the iPad, the current tablet market leader? We don’t have all the specs in yet — Microsoft didn’t release any information on pricing or availability. They did say “suggested retail pricing will be announced closer to availability and is expected to be competitive with a comparable ARM tablet or Intel Ultrabook-class PC.”

Both Surface devices are expected to be released to manufacturing this summer, and possibly available to the public by late summer or early fall.
