Statistic: Apple's iPad market share of global tablet shipments from first quarter 2012 to fourth quarter 2014 | Statista

Apple's  seem to be loosing its leadership position in the tablet market . Apple was the first to enter this market back in  2010  and seems to   have lost their way since its heydays in 2013 when it was in its height of popularity. Tim Cook had termed the dip in sales a speed bump last year. However it seems that this bump is beginning to  slowly look like the  entire road  is bumpy

So how did this happen ? : Blurring of lines between the ipad mini and iphone and original ipad: The ipad mini killed the market for apple. The ipad was the kind of Tablet users liked. Stylishly designed..just the right size. The mini killed this market as " it only served to  giveusers the message that  even an standard smartphone can be a tablet .Plus the pricing played a big role with the iPhone 6 Plus costing  about the same as an iPad mini up front.

This was a typical positioning disaster you cant  be everything to everyone. The ipad mini started
cannibalizing its own  flagship brand . You can see  cannibalization of the iPad is shown in a chart from Credit Suiss

Meanwhile, Samsung's market share jumped about 10 percentage points, Lenovo and Asus gained ground, but most of all, a group of "others," which likely includes Amazon's Kindle Fire and Microsoft's Surface families, has clearly started to bite on Apple's products and now beginning to chip  them away .

The ipad today has lost its mojo.. and unless Apple starts changing the market by launching newer tablets or starts to innovate newer technologies  and features( example wearable with Tablets.) Apple is in the risk of becoming history as far as tablets are concerned

850,000 iPad minis To be Shipped in the first week of sales

Apple expected to ship 850K iPad minis in first week of sales: As the first iPad mini preorders are being delivered and the tablet hits shelves at brick-and-mortar retailers, shipment forecasts are already being released, with one analyst estimating a total of 850,000 units will go out to consumers over the device's first week of sales.

According to AppleInsider,  KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo  Apple will likely ship around 850,000 iPad minis in its first week on the market, based on supply chain checks and logistical considerations such as transportation.

Reports suggest that if the iPad mini  mass production had started sooner than mid-October, the tablet would have seen higher first-week shipments. As it stands, Apple is in short supply of the 7.9-inch device as about 950,000 units were manufactured prior to launch, a statistic reflected in shipment quotes from the Online Apple Store.

Apple  is expected to be the  no 1  in the mid sized Tablet Market with its iPad mini shipments outperforming Amazon's Kindle Fire HD and Google Nexus 7, two of the mini's biggest competitors. In the first two days after launch, iPad mini shipments are expected to reach the Fire's half-month shipment numbers and surpass the Nexus 7's average monthly shipments for the fourth quarter.

iPhone 5 Debut :First Day First Show :Story in Charts

Early iPhone 5 retail sales appear to be living up to the hype as Apple stores were inundated with customers snapping up the company's latest model.Analysts at Oppenheimer predicts that 1.5 million iphone 5 will be sold on the opening day

From New York to San Francisco and Des Moines to Louisville, scores of consumers lined up for the much in demand Iphone 5, the latest generation device  from Apple that's bigger, faster, lighter and more feature laden than older generation iPhones.

The iPhone5 has been touted as the " fastest consumer electronics device to be ever sold across the globe. The above chart from comScore that shows not only the rise of the iPhone, but how each new model has impacted the mix of Apple's user base through the years.

Some outlets reported selling out by midmorning. At Apple's flagship San Francisco store, Charlie Hufnagel spent 94 hours at the head of the line - he was paid $1,500 for the job on Task Rabbit, an Internet site where consumers bid on small jobs. How Samsung S 3 Plans to Counter iPhone 5

Samsung  is all set to “  announce war” on   Apple’s the iphone 5 which has  incidently become the fastest selling consumer electronics device across the world

Post the iphone launch euphoria , Samsung plans to launch a big media blitzkrieg   which it t plans to run in national newspapers tomorrow comparing the iPhone 5 to the Galaxy S III.
The ad breaks down some key specs of the two phones, but it's also a bit misleading. Samsung lists a lot of Galaxy S III-specific software features like sharing photos wirelessly between phones and tilt to zoom, but doesn't mention any iPhone 5-specific features.
The implication is that just because the iPhone 5 doesn't run Samsung's software it's an inferior phone. But Apple packed a lot of features into its iPhone software that the Galaxy S III can't do like Facebook and Twitter integration, AirPlay, and access to thousands of more apps.

New iPhone 5 to support China Mobile's proprietary 3G network,

Apple's next-generation iPhone is expected to launch in October with support for China Mobile's proprietary 3G network, making it a "true world phone," according to a new report.

Support for China Mobile's TD-SCDMA 3G network will be a "key feature" of Apple's sixth-generation iPhone. China Mobile is the largest cellular operator in the world, with more than 650 million mobile subscribers.

Though trials for a high-speed 4G long-term evolution networks are currently underway in China, but widespread adoption of LTE is likely to be 2 to 3 years away. In his eyes, strong 3G support is "critical" for the next iPhone to find success with China Mobile.

In addition, Apple is also enhancing support for Chinese-language users with iOS 6, which he thinks will make the iPhone an even more attractive platform for customers in China. With iOS 6, Siri will be able to understand and speak Mandarin and Cantonese, while the software update will also offer easier Chinese character input and integration with popular Internet services like Baidu, Sina Weibo, Youku and Tudou.

RIM’s tailspin | asymco: "The number of BlackBerry phones sold fell 41% year-on-year in the last RIM fiscal quarter. Sequentially the fall was 30%. Though surprisingly poor, I note that Nokia’s smartphone business fell even more dramatically last quarter (down 50% y/y and 39% sequentially). LG also saw a 44% decline in unit shipments in Q1.

The history of smartphone shipments for the largest vendors  from 2007 to 2012 is shown in the following chart:"According to Asymco RIM’s 7.8 million units is the same level of sales as it had in early 2009. The total market was only about 250 million units per quarter then. It’s around 400 million today. A quick calculation shows that RIM’s smartphone market share has fallen from a peak of 22% to about 6%.

RIM’s stock performance reflects this performance relative to the market.
