App Store Downloads Crosses 50billion, more than $10billion paid to developers

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference kicked off today, and as usual, the keynote began with a bunch of Apple stats.
Before showing a video of the company’s latest retail store opening in Berlin, CEO Tim Cook revealed that a million people went to Apple’s retail stores per day last year. They now have 47 stores around the world in 14 countries. This particular store was opened in a hundred-year-old building.
On the digital side of things, Cook announced that people have downloaded 50 billion apps from the App Store. There are currently 900,000 apps in the store, and 93% of them, he said, are downloaded every month.
Here are Some interesting App Store Numbers and Data that reveals ” How Apple managed to change the Mobile Content Ecosystem

  • There are now 900,000 apps in the app store, with 375,000 of those  optimized for the iPad.
  • Out of those 900,000 apps, 93% are downloaded every month. That’s up from 700,000 apps announced at the September 2012 iPhone 5 event
  • Apple Crossed the 50 billion apps downloaded from the store, in May 2013

iTunes U Hits a Milestone As International Use Grows

iTunes U Hits a Milestone As International Use Grows: The popularity of Apple’s online educational catalog, iTunes U, has tripled over the past two-and-a-half years according to Apple .

Apple announced Thursday that more than 1 billion items have been downloaded from the catalog, up from 300,000 in August 2010. The service was launched in mid-2007 and got a dedicated app at the beginning of last year.

Tunes U allows verified teachers to upload and distribute educational content — in the form of videos, audio and PDF files — privately to their own students, or the Internet at large, for free. They can create courses on their desktops or on their iPads. As with podcasts, users can download materials and subscribe to courses to be notified of future updates.
According to Apple, approximately 1,200 universities — including elite institutions like Yale, MIT and Oxford — and 1,200 K-12 schools host more than 2,500 public courses between them. International growth has been greatest: iTunes U is available in 30 countries, and 60% of iTunes U downloads take place outside the U.S, says Apple.

Apple App Store Downloads surpass 40billion,grow by 200% last Year

Apple announced yesterday that downloads in the App Store had topped 40 billion. (Apple gave no specific date for when the milestone had been reached.)
iPhone and iPod touch customers in 77 countries all around the world have access to the App Store with a range of apps in 20 different categories. The App Store crossed the two billion download mark just over three months ago and the ascent continues.

1005
As of 8th January 2013, Apple’s  App Store has now surpassed 40 billion downloads, with nearly 20 billion of those taking place in 2012. The Cupertino, Calif., technology company said December set a record of two billion downloads. “It has been an incredible year for the iOS developer community,” said Apple executive Eddy Cue. “Developers have made over seven billion dollars on the App Store, and we continue to invest in providing them with the best ecosystem so they can create the most innovative apps in the world.

In any case, that’s up from 35 billion in October and 30 billion last June. Overall, App Store downloads doubled in the past year alone.

As of October 2012  it was predicted that that downloads would hit 40 billion by the end of 2012. If they maintain their current growth trajectory, downloads will top 55 billion by by mid-2013.(businessinsider)
App download growth is a product of many variables.

iOS device sales obviously drive app downloads. On the other hand, there are signs of increasing app fatigue, which could eventually drag on downloads (the average U.S. consumer already has 41 apps on their phones). With 775,000 available apps, choice has never been greater, but the variety creates problems too: navigating the app store has never been more difficult.

iPhone App that Scans and Prints Your Face in 3D

A new iPhone App called Trimensional   lets you scan and then print a 3D model of your face.

Trimensional describes itself as a 3D scanner for iPhone, and before you make plans to use the app to scan and print all manner of 3D models, it’s worth noting that the app only works with faces right now. Trimensional uses the screen and the front-facing camera on an iPhone, detecting patterns of light reflected off your face, in order to build a 3D model.

Readwriteweb reports that An update to the app that hit the App Store this week lets you send a movie or animated GIF file of the rotating 3D model to friends. And with a $5 in-app purchase (the app itself is a dollar), you can send the scan to a 3D printer. “Within about half an hour, ” says Grant Schindler, a research scientist at Georgia Tech, “you can go from scanning yourself to having a physical copy.”
