50% Mobile Data Traffic Comes From iPhone





Apple’s slice of mobile data traffic has grown to now exceed 50% share in the US, UK and in global figures, according to the latest monthly mobile data traffic report by AdMob.

AdMob  data reveals that In the worldwide market, Apple advanced its lead in smartphone traffic share from 43% last month to an even 50%. Symbian slipped from 29% to 25%, while third place Android grew from 10% to 11%. RIM’s share fell slightly from 8% to 7%, Windows Mobile dropped from 5% to 3%.
The race in the US is between Apple, HTC, RIM and Palm, with incremental advancement for Apple and HTC at the expense of other smaller manufacturers and platforms, which all lost share apart from RIM, which remained stagnant. Symbian does not even register as a blip in the US market. 
In the UK, Apple’s share grew even larger, advancing from 71% in September to a commanding 74% share in October. Symbian and Android both slipped a percentage point, from 12% and 11% in the previous report to 11% and 10% in October, respectively.

The number of listings have increased from 2.4 million in 2006 to 2.9 million in 2009.

TRADITIONAL RETAILERS HAVE STARTED TO LIST THEIR MERCHANDISE ON EBAY – Traditional retail players like the U.K.’s Saville Row, Jigsaw and Ed Hardy have started to list their merchandise on eBay website.

NUMBER OF INTERNET USERS CONTINUE TO GROW RAPIDLY – Global Internet-users have increased from 700 million in 2003 to around 1.7 billion in 2009,  and  these numbers would only increase.

Android is the Number One Mobile Platform

Google’s mobile platform Android has overtaken Symbian to become the top smartphone platform in Q4 2010, research firm Canalys reports. 
 


Global sales of Android phones in the fourth quarter of 2010 was 33.3 million, compared to Symbian’s 31 million. Apple is in third place with 16.2 million iOS-based smartphones shipped, followed by RIM with 14.6 million and Microsoft with 3.1 million devices shipped.

 Overall, the global smartphone market grew 89% compared to Q4 2009, exceeding 100 million units for the first time in the final quarter of 2010. Analysts said the figures represented a tectonic shift in the industry, cementing the influence of Google’s advertising-driven business on the mobile Internet. And this year, according to the research firm Gartner, more people will gain access to the Internet through mobile devices than with personal computers.

Phones powered by Android first appeared on the global market two years ago. They are produced by a host of manufacturers, including Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, LG, Huawei and ZTE.  (mashable.com)
