Google Nexus 7 Tablet Sold Out across Online Stores

Google’s $250 16GB Nexus 7 tablet disappeared from Google’s online Play store over the weekend due to overwhelming demand, according to an online report. A message on Google Play advises tablet shoppers to sign up for e-mail alerts to learn when the tablet is back in stock. 

Google Nexus 7 Tablet Sells Out Online – Datamation: “Roughly 10 days after Google began shipping Nexus 7 preorders, the 16 GB version of Google’s 7-inch tablet is sold out from its online store. The Google Play store greets potential buyers of the tablet, which is priced at $249, with a “coming soon” message and an optional email notification sign up.

Google has not said why the 16GB Nexus 7 is no longer for sale, but anonymous sources “close to Google” told the Guardian that the search giant “seriously underestimated” demand.

The 8 GB version, which costs $199, is still available.”Google has not released sales figures, but selling out of the Asus-built device is a good sign. A quick survey of other online stores, including OfficeMax and B&H, reveals that the tablet is currently in short supply.

A low price helps, too. The 8 GB Nexus 7 model competes against Amazon’s hot-selling, although aging, Kindle Fire in price while delivering more modern hardware. For $50 more, buyers get twice the storage capacity.

The Making of the Tablet Economy: How Big is the Market

With the Launch of Google’s official Tablet , Nexus ,the question that is doing the round across the tech industry is   “ does the Tablet market big enough “ for everyone  to have some share of the pie ..  or this is another consumer electronics bubble in making .

Google tablet market foray  has no doubt raised the stakes for everyone.. and  as its just a matter of time before Tablets replace PC as the computing device of choice .However the truth is that Not everyone is making money by selling tablets .It’s not lost on Google that Amazon’s $199 Kindle Fire was the only slate to grab a sizeable chunk of the market beyond Apple’s iPad last year.

But the price at which Amazon kindle’s were sold barely covered the cost of manufacturing.. and the situation is unlikely to change soon

With Apple winning the high-end tablet wars, Google and Amazon and now Microsoft  are left to fight over the low end of the market.

When a Google-branded tablet finally launches — likely in the third quarter — it will have to be heavily subsidized to carry a $150 price tag, analysts said.“It will cost more to build than it will sell for, which means Google will pay a heavy subsidy for its tablet,” said analyst Tony Berkman of ITG Research. “There is no choice but to do that, if Google wants to compete.”

Yesterday, reports out of China suggested Amazon also was working on next-generation  Kindle Fire tablets and will continue to undersell the iPad at $200.

Google enters the Tablet Space with Nexus 7

By taking a greater role in the tablet market, Google hopes to ensure that its various online services remain front-and-center to consumers amid a changing technology landscape in which tablets by Apple and Amazon are increasingly becoming gateways to the Web and Web-based content such as movies and music. And it unveiled the Nexus Q – a $300 device with a built-in amplifier that lets users stream content from Android devices onto their TVs.

Google I/O, the company’s annual conference for developers, has had an extra season to celebrate  as  Google unveiled a new 7-inch tablet computer, called Nexus 7, and a sphere-shaped device for streaming music and video that it is calling Nexus Q.

The Nexus 7 tablet is available starting Wednesday in the Google Play market, and it will begin shipping in mid-July.
Aimed directly at the popular 7-inch Amazon Kindle Fire tablet, which also sells for $199, the Nexus 7 features content like magazines, books and movies front and center.The “My Library” widget on the home page features tiles with the latest content you were reading or watching, and a tap of the tile launches that content right where you left off.

The “Nexus 7″ tablet, built by and co-branded with Taiwan’s Asus, was one of several gadgets unveiled at its annual developers’ conference on Wednesday, as the Internet search and advertising  giant is now worrying over its ” lack of  ofFirepower over its productivity portfolio ‘s specially in the Mobile web space, Tablets and Smartphones or even ereraders

But the Nexus tablet hogged the spotlight. Sold initially only on the Google Play online store, its $199 price tag and 7-inch stature is aimed squarely at the Fire, but the Nexus has a front-facing camera while Amazon’s tablet does not. 

Google’s maiden entry in the tablet market, which will also see the advent of Microsoft Corp’s Surface this year, could also help accelerate development of tablet-specific applications for its Android operating software — a key factor that has helped popularize Apple’s iPad, analysts say.
