Android users account for 56% mobile ad impressions in Millennial Media Platform

According to the latest  Mobile Media  Advertising Mix, out of 73% smartphone users where M Media reached , 56% mobile ad impressions were across Android users, and 37% were from iOS consumers. Impressions  across non phone connected device (( tablets, consoles,)  was  23% ( 3% rise  increase as compared to last year

Ad impressions across iOS OS increased by 3% ( 34% to 37% ) during last FY, while Android  users saw  4% increase in impressions served across their mobile device (  from 52% to 56%)

App Store Downloads Crosses 50billion, more than $10billion paid to developers


Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference kicked off today, and as usual, the keynote began with a bunch of Apple stats.
Before showing a video of the company’s latest retail store opening in Berlin, CEO Tim Cook revealed that a million people went to Apple’s retail stores per day last year. They now have 47 stores around the world in 14 countries. This particular store was opened in a hundred-year-old building.
On the digital side of things, Cook announced that people have downloaded 50 billion apps from the App Store. There are currently 900,000 apps in the store, and 93% of them, he said, are downloaded every month.

  • There are now 900,000 apps in the app store, with 375,000 of those  optimized for the iPad. 
  • Out of those 900,000 apps, 93% are downloaded every month. That’s up from 700,000 apps announced at the September 2012 iPhone 5 event
  • Apple Crossed the 50 billion apps downloaded from the store, in May 2013
  • So far Apple has paid out $10 billion to developers, with $5 billion paid out in the last year alone.
  •  Apple claims that this makes up 74 percent of total app download revenue across all mobile

Android’s Biggest Market : Europe or Latin America

Interestingly the UK is one of the last few markets where Blackberry holds any significant market share (Canada is another). Android is the big winner in the UK increasing its share by 10% to bump it up to second place behind market leader Apple.

 In the USA Apple has strengthened its position increasing market share slightly in the past year (8% increase), while Android has remained level. Blackberry continued its decline in the US and now holds less than 2% market share.

 Countries such as Germany, Spain and France have all increased their Android market share, however some of the biggest increases have happened in countries such as Brazil and China where Android’s market share has increased by 26% and 50% respectively. Russia has seen a sharp drop in Nokia’s market share with the Finnish handset maker losing 19 points over the past 12 months and Android picking up the majority of that loss (up 18 points).

Worldwide, Android is leading the charge making impressive gains in the last year (up 14%). Apple sits in second place with 26% of the market as Nokia slips down into third with 22%. Overall we are seeing Android’s market share increase in a large proportion of countries around the world, especially in developing markets.

How Itunes U might Replace Academic Books in Classrom



Apple ‘s entry into the Higher Education Space was an Interesting one , and might  pave the way for Digital eLearning  and enure immense reach.In the last academic year, students spent more than $5 billion on textbooks. The iPad is a substitute for textbooks. And as more and more of those pricey textbooks are available on the iPad – for much less money than the paper version – students will see a huge reduction in the amount of money they have to spend on those textbooks.
While the iTunes U app provides access to the content that’s available in the iTunes U section of the iTunes Store, it also offers a means for teacher and student interaction. The opening interface looks a lot like Apple’s iBooks app, with a bookshelf that hosts icons representing your courses. Tap on a course, and you’ll see a list of topics on the left, such as Overview, Instructor, and OutlineTeachers can post a syllabus, notes, and assignments to the class, and students receive notifications when new posts are available.
. More than 600 universities, plus other cultural institutions like the New York Public Library, MoMA, and PBS stations are on iTunes U. Teachers can distribute course materials through iTunes U as well, using ePub and PDF file formats.

iTunes U Hits a Milestone As International Use Grows: The popularity of Apple’s online educational catalog, iTunes U, has tripled over the past two-and-a-half years according to Apple .

Apple announced Thursday that more than 1 billion items have been downloaded from the catalog, up from 300,000 in August 2010. The service was launched in mid-2007 and got a dedicated app at the beginning of last year.


Tunes U allows verified teachers to upload and distribute educational content — in the form of videos, audio and PDF files — privately to their own students, or the Internet at large, for free. They can create courses on their desktops or on their iPads. As with podcasts, users can download materials and subscribe to courses to be notified of future updates.
According to Apple, approximately 1,200 universities — including elite institutions like Yale, MIT and Oxford — and 1,200 K-12 schools host more than 2,500 public courses between them. International growth has been greatest: iTunes U is available in 30 countries, and 60% of iTunes U downloads take place outside the U.S, says Apple.

iPhone 5 Sales by US States : Infographic
















iQmetrix, the leading provider of retail management software for the North American wireless industry, today released statistics on smartphones purchased since the iPhone 5’s Sept. 21 launch (Sept. 21 to Oct. 7, 2012). iQmetrix sampled data from nearly 7,000 independent wireless retailers across North America revealing year-over-year (YoY) buying trends from 2011 and 2012. (See full infographic below.)

Highest regions for iPhone 5 sales were Canada (31.7 percent of all smartphones) and the Western U.S. (24.3 percent of all smartphones). Lowest regions were the Northeastern U.S. (18.0 percent) and the Midwestern U.S. (11.6 percent).

Why Samsung is number one handset/smartphone vendor: why your mobile strategy should emulate Samsung | mobiThinking: Samsung’s supremacy in the mobile business is no accident. In 2012, Samsung  overtook Nokia to claim the number one spot with 23.4 percent of mobile phone market and extended its lead, massively, over Apple in the smartphone market taking 30.3 percent, according to IDC and Strategy Analytics (see the tables below). Samsung also knocked Apple off its perch to become the best-loved smartphone vendor in the US-based Brand Keys 2013 Customer Loyalty Index.

Despite the growing popularity of smartphones (sales grew 44 percent in 2012, according to IDC), 59 percent of mobile purchasers still bought a feature phone in 2013.

Despite the meteoric rise of the Android operating system (OS), which is used in handsets from Samsung, ZTE, HTC and others, 70 percent of mobile purchasers didn’t buy an Android handset in 2013.


Apple might be the number two smartphone vendor, but 86 percent of people who purchased a mobile in 2013 didn’t buy an iOS/Apple handset.

Android Captures 52% Mobile OS in Germany,Facebook Rules Social Media

The German Social Networking Landscape: 46.4 million German internet users accessed a social networking site from a computer at least once during the month. The German Press Agency (DPA) recently published a snapshot of the social networking landscape in Germany using comScore MMX data and unsurprisingly, Facebook captures the majority of users with an audience of 38.6 million unique visitors.

Google Plus is in second position with 5.6 million unique visitors, Xing is a close third with 4.2 million users and Stayfriends is fourth with 3.5 million unique users. Twitter is 5th in the rankings with 3.1 million German users and LinkedIn comes in 8th place with an audience of 2.7 million.
Mobile web is quite big in Germany with 50% Germans owning Smartphones,  which is approx 4 million smartphones as per 2012

With almost 52% market share, Google’s Android is the leading operating system, but who wins the battle of the smartphone manufacturer in German
