Beacons are small, Bluetooth-enabled devices ( cabe placed to a wall or in the sales counter )  which send signals to the customers smartphone  once they are s within 50-100 feet of the device. Mobile beacon’s  automatically start triggering personalized coupons, special offers,  personal recommendations and loyalty rewards. Typically, one beacon is needed for every 5,000 square feet of store space.

Smartphone Penetration in Italy at 64%,Retail apps show highest growth




In Italy Smartphone users represent 64.1 percent of the total Italian mobile audience, an increase of 23.5 percent from the previous year

Online retail sites and apps were visited by 23.8 percent of smartphone owners, followed closely by shopping and price guides (22.6 percent). Accessing electronic payments or money transfer services  via  smartphones has also been popular, with 21.7% t of Italian smartphone owners using those services

Top 5 Products that Europe’s 43% Mobile Shoppers intend to buy via smartphones









Mobile Statistics – 43% more Europeans shop via mobile this year – Internet Retailer: “This summer, 43% more European consumers in Spain, France, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom used smartphones to access a mobile retail site or app compared to the number who did the same during a three-month period last year, according to web and mobile measurement firm comScore Inc. Among those browsing with smartphones, 14.6% say they used their device to make a purchase in August.

ComScore drew its data from an online survey of “a nationally representative sample of mobile phone subscribers age 13 and above” in each country, the firm says.

Between summer 2012 and summer 2013, the fastest mobile shopping growth was in Spain (66.5%) and Italy (61.3%), while the most consumers using smartphones to shop were in Germany (9.9 million) and the United Kingdom (9.7 million), comScore finds. France had both the second-slowest year-over-year growth rate for mobile shopping—35.9%, beating the United Kingdom’s 29.5%—and the second-fewest number of smartphone owners—3.34 million, just above Spain’s 3.28 million.
Smartphones were normally used to buy the following items 

  1. Clothing or accessories, 5.4%.
  2. Consumer electronics or household appliances, 3.8%.
  3. Printed books, 3.8%.
  4. Tickets, 3.4%.
  5. Personal care or hygiene products, 2.6%.

US Holiday ecommerce and mobile commerce set to record 15% growth


The  2013 Holiday Season Ecommerce  is set to record a spectacular growth this year. “eMarketer revised its holiday sales projections upwards and reported that it now expects 2013 U.S. retail ecommerce holiday season sales to grow about 15.1%  $61.8 billion, up from $53.7 billion in the 2012 holiday season and $46.6 billion in the 2011 holiday shopping season.


Sales projections from  Chicago-based research firm ShopperTrak ,predicts that  the entire year,Retail revenue in November and December should rise 2.4%  during the biggest  2013 Holiday shopping.That compares with a 3-per-cent increase in 2012 from 2011.




 eMarketer expects U.S. retail ecommerce sales excluding travel and ticket sales — to reach $262.3 billion, up 16.4 percent from 2012. On a quarter-by-quarter basis, U.S. retail ecommerce should grow about 15.5 percent in the fourth quarter to $83.2 billion, again according to eMarketer.”
