US smartphone growth 2012 to 2015

UNITED  STATES  smartphone   penetration stood at 72% as per 2014 Q3,  however by July 2015  US smartphone users penetration increased to 77% as of july,2015

 As per  comscore data 191.4 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones (77.1 percent mobile market penetration) during the three months ending in July 2015. From 2012 onwards US smartphone penetration increased 21%. to stand at 77% penetration
Apple ranked as the top OEM with 44.2 percent of U.S. smartphone subscribers (up 1.1 percentage points from April).
Samsung ranked second with 27.3 percent market share, followed by LG with 8.7 percent (up 0.3 percentage points),
Motorola with 4.9 percent and HTC with 3.5 percent

UK No. 1 Country in Mobile Ad Spending per User

UK No. 1 Country in Mobile Ad Spending per User – eMarketer: Mobile advertisers in the UK spend more trying to reach each mobile internet user in the country than anywhere else in the world, according to new estimates by eMarketer. By this metric, the UK topped the overall-larger US mobile advertising market, as well as Japan and Scandinavian countries.


Advertisers spent $36.35 per mobile internet user in the UK in 2012, higher than any other market worldwide. Norway came in a close second, at $35.71 per person. The US has the third-highest spending per mobile internet user in the world; advertisers in the country spent an average of $31.50 to reach each one. Japan, which is the world’s second-largest mobile advertising market in terms of absolute dollars, saw advertisers spend $26.23 per mobile internet user, putting it behind Denmark and in fifth place.

UK Smartphone Penetration to overtake US in 2013 ?

Deloitte predicts the smartphone will become a mass market phenomenon and an everyday object worldwide The U.K. has one of the highest penetrations of smartphones of all the researched markets, according to Ofcom with 58 percent of the population owning a smartphone in 2012, and almost a fifth (19 percent) of U.K. residents owning a tablet.. Mobile users are driving this change: more smartphones are being shipped than PCs. As adoption grows, so does the use of the mobile web. Over 50% of new internet connections already come from mobile devices and its growing. Mobile searches have increased 4x since last year. 

Recent data from Techcrunch  shows that Internet shopping on mobiles is also on the rise — and the U.K. leads for online shopping generally (across all connected devices), with U.K. consumers now spending more than £1,000 per year buying stuff online.

 A recent Google commissioned UK study highlights findings on mobile consumer behavior reveals  four trends; 1)mobile users are seeking local information, searching with greater urgency than desktop, finding new ways to entertain themselves, and using phones as shopping companions

2) Take a closer look: 68% of local information seekers call or visit a business after looking up a local information on their smartphone.
3) 45% of smartphone shoppers report purchase decisions were influenced as a result of using a smartphone. 4)87% of smartphone users notice mobile ads

10 Nations with Smartphone penetration exceed 25%




The chart published at Asymco shows which countries “lead” adoption in terms of penetration. It shows that the US is quite high in the ranking and the most penetrated “large” country.

In the 2nd chart illustrates the penetration of smartphones vs. total subscriptions with bubble size representing population size.

Smartphones cross 50% penetration in US , 4 million Lumia sold in Q2,2012

The US has finally  reached 50% smartphone penetration. comScore data shows July penetration at 48.8% and a monthly growth in penetration of nearly 2 percentage points.Given the rate of growth, it’s nearly certain that we’ve crossed 50% in August 2012  (according to Asymco)



Nokia has been fairly doing well, considering the last 8 quarters have seen Nokia sink to unprecedented levels as  Global Lumia shipments were 4 million in the last quarter
Global average selling price was €186 for a Lumia phone
North American[2] phone shipments were 600k. This includes all phone types and all operating systems.
North American sales were €128 million.

People are more patient with apps, as 50% of users will tolerate load times longer than five seconds. What is slowing down your apps?











Mobile websites  become slow due to  a variety of reasons. Some of them are

1)Websites often have to pull in information from a variety of sources and assemble it into a page.  At  timesAdvertising banners  load earlier than the content page .

This happens because the content is coming from the publisher’s server while the ads are coming from third-party servers. The more servers a page draws upon, the more slowly it will load. “

Similarly if your Mobile Page or Mobile website loads slowly, it might also have to do with  the kind of Applications you have been using 

Companies like Google has started to provide solutions in the form of  speeding up broadband access (the company is trying to bring 1-Gigabit/second Internet access to Kansas City) and accelerating basic Web protocols through SPDY. Akamai, a company whose mission is to make the Internet faster, has been working with mobile carriers to speed up their networks. Businesses stand to make millions of dollars for every millisecond of time saved online.

43% Smartphones,48billion Mobile App Downloads in 2015:





The mobile applications market has had strong growth over the past several years, as a result of the addition of new products, players, and business models.  According to recent In Stats Research report The smartphone growth will continue to  show rapid growth , driven mainly by increased smartphone penetration, as well as growth in consumer mobile application libraries.  As a result, In-Stat (www.in-stat.com) expects mobile application downloads to reach nearly 48 billion in 2015. 
 

In  December 2010, the number of applications in the Apple App Store reached 3,50,000 while Android market reached 80,000. The research  results show that Apple and Android users are significantly more likely than BlackBerry users to have downloaded mobile applications. Smartphone applications are not only about 3G. Almost half of survey respondents report downloading applications over Wi-Fi.

According to an Olswang report in early 2011, smartphones are experiencing accelerating rates of adoption: 22% of UK consumers already have a smartphone, with this percentage rising to 31% amongst 24-35 year olds 

Top 5 Insights on the smartphone ecosystem  includes:
  • Touchscreens will account for nearly 90% of smartphones shipped in 2011, and will increase to nearly 100% in the next several years.
  • Smartphones are expected to increase from 23% of total phone shipments in 2010 to 45% in 2015.
  • In December 2010, the number of applications in the Apple App Store reached 350,000 while Android Market reached 80,000.
  • Survey results show that Apple and Android users are significantly more likely than BlackBerry users to have downloaded mobile applications.
  • Smartphone applications are not only about 3G.  Almost half of survey respondents report downloading applications over Wi-Fi.
 As of the end of 2010, eMarketer estimates 30% of smartphone users in the US had a BlackBerry and 28% had an iPhone, the top two operating systems. But Android’s share of the market is rising quickly. Nielsen tracking surveys found Android pulling ahead among recent smartphone purchasers, and eMarketer predicts that by 2012 Android will be the No. 1 mobile OS in the country.
