121 million to shop online this year on cyber monday,4% fewer than last year

A study which was released today by the NRF (National Retail Federation )and Prosper Insights & Analytics,  shows that   121.3 million consumers will shop online tomorrow, on Cyber Monday 2015.This number is  down 4.4% from 126.9 million last year. That 121.3 million number represents 49.5% of all consumers

The 2015’s Holiday season started off  briskly  with Black Friday seeing   $2.72 billion in e-commerce sales, up 14% from 2014. Meanwhile online shopping on Thanksgiving Day 2015 too  saw a higher jump in online spending, with $1.73 billion in sales, up 25% from the  2014 .Black Friday and Thanksgiving online sales saw consumers spending   $4.47 billion

However in store sales—excluding e-commerce—fell about 10% on Thursday and Friday to $12.1 billion, according to ShopperTrak, which monitors traffic to stores and malls.

61 billion USD to be spent Online by US consumers this holiday season, 8% to come from mobile commerce

This chart illustrates the rise of holiday season e-commerce spending in the United States from 2005 through 2013 and a forecast of 2014 spending.

The above chartshows the US holiday Spends  since 2005 onwards, and predicts that the Holiday Online  Spends including ( Black Friday and Cyber Monday )  is estimated to touch  61 billion US dollars., that’s a projected growth of 22% .

This number is based   according to comScore’s official holiday spending forecast. Mobile commerce is expected to contribute $7.9 billion to this year’s total, which would represent a 25% jump over last year’s mobile sales

The battle for Online Spending : Pinterest vs Facebook: A recent survey of 7,431 online shoppers, conducted by BizRate Insights, reveals Pinterest motivates more online purchases than Facebook.

Ranked By IBM And MutualMind: Black Friday Winners And Losers – Forbes: ” While Thanksgiving online sales  zoomed by 19%over previous year, mainly powered by Mobile sales contributing 25.8% of total online sales for Thanksgiving. However the ” one important data which  has not been ” discussed ” was the role of Pinterest in driving  Mobile and Online Sales during Thanksgiving    

 However one interesting Fact  that has been unsaid  was” On average, holiday shoppers referred from Pinterest on Black Friday spent 77 percent more per order than shoppers referred from Facebook.  Facebook average order value was $52.30 versus Pinterest average order value which was $92.51.  However, according to IBM, Facebook referrals converted sales at nearly four times the rate of Pinterest.

According to data analytics provider MutualMind, among the top 10 retailers it studied, Walmart led the volume mentions for Black Friday with an average share of voice at 77.5%.

2013 Cyber Monday among the Biggest Shopping day in US

U.S. shoppers made Cyber Monday the biggest online shopping day in history with a  20.6 percent increase in online sales.  Cyber Monday also capped the highest five­day  online sales period on record – from Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday – which  grew 16.5 percent over the same period in 2012.  

Cyber Monday 2013 Compared to Cyber Monday 2012:
• Online Sales Set New Record: Cyber

Monday online sales grew by 20.6  percent over 2012.  Average order value was $128.77, down 1 percent year­ over­year. 

• Top Five Cities for Cyber Sales:  New York took the top spot for total online 

Rretail sales on Cyber Monday.  Rounding out the top five were Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta.   

 Mobile Shopping Soars: Mobile traffic grew to 31.7 percent of all online traffic, 
increasing by 45 percent over 2012.

Mobile sales were also strong, exceeding 17 percent of total online sales, an increase of 55.4 percent year­over­year

 Smartphones Browse, Tablets Buy:  Smartphones drove 19.7 percent of all 
online traffic compared to tablets at 11.5 percent, making it the browsing device
of choice.

 When it comes to making the sale, tablets drove 11.7 percent of all
online sales, more than double that of smartphones, which accounted for 5.5

The Data from he National Retail Federation  shows the  Black Friday spends by U consumrs  during  the Thanksgiving weekend 

The Federation’s definition of “Black Friday weekend” includes Thursday, Friday, Saturday and projected spending for Sunday. The survey estimates number of shoppers, not number of people.

The length of the shopping season is not the same across all years: the date for Black Friday varies between 23 and 29 November, while Christmas Eve is fixed at 24 December. 2012 had the longest shopping season since 2007.

Black Friday cannot get bigger and brighter more than this This Holiday Season …Black Friday 2013 saw the biggest ever sales , with or without Walmart ( Despite protests against Walmart) and a national backlash over stores opening for customers on Thanksgiving day, this year’s Black Friday sales hit record-highs both in stores and online

Nothing stopped the Digital sales to stop as Shoppers splurged on Gifts and  Gadgets  from the various online retail stores , as Black Friday eCommerce totalled   in the US on Black Friday reached nearly $1.2 billion from desktop and laptop computers alone, while comscore data shows $1.198 ecommerce spends

Has Thanksgiving Becomes the New Black Friday ?

Has 2013 Holiday season gave birth to a new  $billion dollar online shopping day? The answer is Yes .. Thanksgiving has indeed become the new Thanksgiving with online sales cross the $1billion mark

Adobe Digital Index has released its annual forecast based on an analysis of nearly half a trillion visits to retail Web sites, representing possibly the largest and most accurate sales prediction model. This year double-digit grow is expected early on Cyber Monday (up 15%) and Black Friday (up 17%), while Thanksgiving will be the fastest-growing online shopping day (up 21%) in 2013. Cyber Monday, in particular, will break records as the highest single online shopping day ever with sales above $2.27 billion.

Thanksgiving now at billion dollar shopping day,as eCommerce shopping exceeds $1.06billion


This statistic shows the retail e-commerce spending on Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday in the United States from 2008 to 2012. On Cyber Monday 2011 which took place on November 28, online spending reached 1.25 billion U.S. dollars.

The 2013 Thanksgiving online sales today crossed  a major benchmark one billion  to record $1.06billion in the U.S., according to Adobe, which analyzed 180 million visits to more than 1,000 U.S. retail websites.

Thanksgiving Day revenue for leading online retailers rose nearly 40% from last year, e-commerce firm Monetate said in a separate sales report. The totals reflected this year’s rare convergence of the holiday with the first night of Hannukah.

Among the  devices that aided online shopping this year to reach the major milestone was the increases included a 73.6% rise in revenue from shoppers using tablets, a 50.7% rise in sales to smartphone users and a 39.8% increase in revenues via laptop and desktop computers, said Pennsylvania-based Monetate, which based the findings on data from nearly 30 million online shopping sessions.

Apparel ,Books Tops Online Shopping Activity During 2012 Holidays

 Web-only – Apparel tops the shopping list for consumers on Cyber Monday – Internet Retailer: Clothing and accessories topped the list of products bought by consumers on the first Monday after Thanksgiving—the shopping day known at Cyber Monday

The latest  survey data from 31.4% of surveyed consumers bought apparel and related items on Cyber Monday. In second place came books, CDs, DVDs, videos and video games, bought by 27.8% of respondents.

According to the survey, 41.3% of respondents shopped online on Monday. The percentage of consumers purchasing in the specific product categories are as follows:
• Clothing and accessories, 31.4%
• Books, CDs, DVDs, videos and video games, 27.8%
• Consumer electronics or computer-related accessories, 25.2%
The survey found that respondents spent an average of $194.46 with e-retailers on Monday, higher than $172.42 average spent online for the entire Thanksgiving weekend.
