1.7 million Smartphones with ” Windows Phone” Mobile OS already sold

According to Gartner, 1.7 million smartphones using a Microsoft mobile OS were sold world wide in the second quarter of 2011, for a 1.6% market share.In the third quarter of 2011, Microsoft’s world wide market share dropped slightly to 1.5%. In the fourth quarter however market share increased to 1.9%.
 However it should be noted that such reports include both Windows Phone and Windows Mobile marketshare under the same “Microsoft mobile OS” banner, and do not make the distinction of separating the marketshare values of the two.
Studies carried out by Nielsen Company indicated that in the US, WP7 had a smart phone market share of 1% each in the periods March to May,and May to July 2011 For Q3 2011, Nielsen reported a US market share of 1.2% for WP7,which rose to 1.4% in Q4 2011.

Nokia Becomes The ” Biggest Windows Phone Vendor” in Q4,

Microsoft’s smartphone shipments remain tiny, but their tie up with windows , has shown that Nokia can be down but not out of the staging a comeback in the smartphone market , and   is now playing catch up with a generation which Nokia had been out of touch with during their spiral  decline .


 Strategy Analytics data shows that  Global smartphone shipments using Windows Phone grew 36 percent sequentially to reach 2.7 million units during the last three months of 2011.In comparison, Apple sold 37 million iPhones to become the biggest smartphone vendor in the world during the fourth quarter.Nokia overtook HTC and others to become with the biggest Windows Phone vendor with a 33 percent market share, according to Strategy Analytics.



Nokia accounted for 900,000, or 33%, of the 2.7 million Windows Phone devices sold during the period.Nokia hasn’t detailed the overall number of Windows Phone smartphones it has shipped.Nokia hasn’t detailed the overall number of Windows Phone smartphones it has shipped. Whenreporting its quarterly figures on January 26, the company only said it had “sold well over 1 million Lumia devices to date.”

Nokia Windows Mobile Sales projected at 37 Million

Morgan Stanley expects shipments of Nokia’s Windows Phones sales to increase from 37 million units in 2012 to 64 million units in 2013.
With some new and improved  selection of handsets in the marketplace — including Nokia’s newly announced LTE device, the Lumia 900 — Windows Phone is poised for some respectable market-share gains, particularly if Microsoft promotes it as aggressively as some expect it to.

With the expectation currently being that around 600 million smartphones will be sold on 2012 it would give Windows Phone a market share of between 7 and 10%.
HTC’s will similarly increase from 6 million to 10 million in 2013, giving a combined total of 74 million Windows Phones in 2013.


Meanwhile Morgan Stanley expects shipments of Nokia’s new Windows Phones to hit 37 million units in 2012, and 64 million units in 2013. Add to this Morgan Stanley’s estimates for HTC’s Windows Phone handsets, and you get shipments of 43 million this year and 74 million the next. And that’s just those two OEMs alone. There are a few others for which the research house doesn’t provide estimates. Samsung, for example. Pretty good, considering Microsoft’s smartphone efforts to date.

Windows Phone Marketplace Reached 40,000 Apps

Thirteen months after the initial launch of Windows Phone 7, a couple of minor and one major update later, the Windows Phone Marketplace has finally reached an important milestone. The above  infographic by WP AppHab details the status of Windows Phone 7 from the app angle; all 8000+ of them. Paid apps have the largest share of the total figure.

Presently 40,000 apps are now available in the Marketplace and, while we all know that it always comes down to quality and not quantity, it nevertheless indicates steady growth. The monthly average is almost at 3,100 apps added and, as you can see from the image above, the tendency for growth is certainly there. It’s nothing like Google’s Android Market or Apple’s iTunes App Store, each with more than 500,000 apps, but it’s safe to assume that most of the important apps are either already here for Windows Phone users or coming soon.

US To Miss Out First “Nokia Windows Phone” Launch Till 2012

Samsung’s media spending was up 52% in between 2009 and 2010 here, LG was up 10% in that period, Apple’s up 19% and spending on the brand “BlackBerry” was up 46.6%, according to Ad Age DataCenter.


According to comScore ‘s data 72.2 million Americans accessed social networking sites or blogs on their mobile device in August 2011, an increase of 37 percent in the past year
Mobile-savvy shoppers will account for $127 billion or 28 percent of the $447 billion the National Retail Federation predicts U.S. consumers will spend this holiday season, according to IDC.
Now, it looks like Nokia’s much-anticipated Windows Phone, the fruit of a new partnership with mobile underdog, Microsoft, won’t be around for the all-important 2011 U.S. holiday shopping season.


According to Adage  mass-marketing for the new device won’t start until 2012 in the U.S., and it’s unclear if Nokia’s Windows handsets will arrive on shelves this year at all.while the manufacture is readying a European push to promote the new devices, it appears that consumers in its toughest market, the U.S., might not see much marketing, if any, until next year.

The lack of a significant marketing campaign in the U.S. this side of the holiday season could mean that Nokia isn’t ready to launch there just yet. Nokia CEO Stephen Elop admitted in a company earnings call last week that Nokia would launching in “select” markets initially . By leaving out ‘ the   U S Market ” during peak Holiday season,reveals that Nokia probably  wants to get its marketing strategy  just right .. before   launching  it Across US Markets

 Nokia is currently evaluating agencies to launch its Windows Phones planned for 2012, according to a briefing document, and has tapped a little-known independent London shop to lead marketing for the new handsets. It’s specifically looking for a San Francisco-area digital agency to “dimensionalize” the global creative idea “Amazing Everyday.
“This is bound to dissapoint Nokia Windows Phone users  who have been waiting to see   Nokia’s “Windows Phone Experience.” Teaser commercials for Nokia’s first Windows Phone started to air over the weekend on British national TV.
