for the first time in a decade apple’s iphone sales hits speedbreaker

"iphone hits speed breakers "

Apple announced a sharp slowdown in sales growth for its iPhone

Apple’s  honeymoon period with its most successful product, iPhone  seems to be finally over, with the company reporting ” flat sales in a clear indication of  iPhone’s  slowest growth since the product’s 2007 launch  as Apple  warned investors that “sales will fall for the first time later this year.

"sales of ihome was at roughly 74.6 and 74.8 million in Q3 2014 and Q32015"

The company sold 74.8m of its flagship devices in the final three months of 2015, compared to  74.46m iPhones  it told during the same period in 2014.. which points to the fact that : iPhone sales has now plateaued

Apple’s fundamentalas as a company is beyond comparison and its  one of the most cash rich company in the world with assets totalling $293bn, with $205bn of that in cash.
However the worrying point for apple, is that the company is dependent on the iPhone magic wand more than it should do as it created more volatility and risk for the company something that wall street will not like

  • Apple’s ipads meanwhile have been shrinking for more than 18 months. Apple sold 16.1million iPads in the last three months of 2015, down from 21.4m tablets in the same quarter last year.
  • Mac sales too, declined  with Apple selling 4% fewer  ending up with 5.3 million sales (YoY)
  • Apple Watch, grew sharply to $4.4bn, up from $2.6bn in the third quarter of 2015 (when the company first reported Watch sales).
  • Other products in the category include Beats accessories, Apple Pay and Apple TV

3 riders about AT & T new unlimited data plan

AT&T New unlimited data plan comes at a time when most wireless carriers have either eliminated or raised the price of unlimited data plans. Sprint and T-Mobile, the only two carriers that still offer unlimited data to new customers, have bumped up prices.

"AT&T new unlimited data plan with riders"

AT&T’s unlimited data plan is back, with strings attached. The first rider is  that to  get this unlimited data plan, consumers should also  subscribe to its TV service (only for customers who also subscribe to its DirecTV or U-Verse TV services. Enrollment began Tuesday.)

So does it technically offer unlimited data : Rider 2  .AT &T will only slow the connection for any customer who is in a data-congested area and who in a given month exceeds 22 gigabytes of data. This is equivalent to someone streaming 50 hours of video and 250 hours of music and then spending another 220 hours on the Internet each month.

Rider 3 : How much is the actual cost :The monthly cost for the data is $60, plus $40 for each line. The fourth line is free. This means one line costs $100 a month, two lines are $140, and then three or four lines cost $180. .

Who should go for this plan :This is a pretty good deal for anyone who needs a paid TV service and is a heavy user of wireless data. Specifically, it’s best for individuals who use more than 10GB to 15GB of data per month

UK Counties mobile web download speeds :Glasgow vs Edinburgh vs Manchester vs Liverpool

Mobile web download speeds compared : Glasgow vs Edinburgh v Manchester vs Liverpool vs Bristol vs Leicester vs Birmingham vs London vs Nottingham

mobile coverge and speed test in UK while travelling :

Mobile cells covering roads reach only a comparatively small number of customers. This makes the deployment of a mobile network along motorways a relatively costly affair.
  1. Nonetheless EE and Three managed to deliver results in connecting roads performance which were remarkably close to the benchmark results shown in small cities. On YouTube SD EE and Three show a 90 % success rate while Vodafone and Three stay below 80 %. Youtube HD makes things worse.( source :)
  2. The key performance indicators in the web-page download sessions showed a success ratio of 92.4 % (EE) and 89.9 % (Three) which are slightly lower than in small cities.
a)Vodafone with 75.8 and even more Telefonica with 75.6 % had noticeably more difficulties covering roads. You can see download the entire here
  •  Vodafone and more so Telefonica again have issues with file transfer success ratios starting below 90 % and in many cases reaching around 80 %.

The Mobile Network Speed Test in UK :Vodafone vs EE vs Telefonica

While Telecom network providers take great care in covering the metropolitan areas, small cities often lag behind. Is this true for the United Kingdom too?

"mobile network speed test in UK"

How does Mobile Network speed in terms of web page downloads compare in UK .In 2015 the Mobile Network Test in the UK  compared  3  telecom majorsThree, O2 and Vodafone. The above chart shows the ranking of mobile Networks in term of web page downloads on their mobile
  •  In 2014  in a similar mobile network test showed EE as the clear winner followed by Three with the best voice performance. O2 and Vodafone followed almost head-to-head.
1)The test also displayed much better performance in metropolitan areas than in smaller cities and on connecting roads. That fact and the population of 8.6 million people are good reasons to look at the results of the largest city London separately

2)One of the most often used services is web surfing which was tested with a mixture of 9 popular live and one static web-pages. The winner of last year‘s benchmark EE managed to improve its session success ratio for live web sites from 97 to 99 %.

a)The average session time to download a popular live web site decreased from 4.1 to 2.7 seconds.

b)The other three operators showed almost identical session times between 3.1 and 3.2 seconds, but on reliability Vodafone clearly ranked second with a healthy success ratio of 97.4 %, while Telefonica followed with 96.8 %.

c)With an error rate of more than 5 % , all three telco network carriers needs quite catching up to do

Thinnest Smartphone Manufacturers : 10 slimmest mobile phones

For Apple and specially for late Steve Jobs, having the slimmest smartphone was an obsession, and Apple it has continued his dream of  the  iPhone”being the slimmest mobile device handset in the market and it makes it right at the top as the slimmest smartphone with a  mere 7.09 mm.

The 10 slimmest mobile handsets in the market  from thinnest to thickest today are iPhone,Huawei, Samsung, Sony,Meizu,HTC ,BQ,ZTE,Blackberry,OnePlus,Xiaomi, Nokia,LG and Motorola

10  Thinnest  Smartphones Manufacturers:

While iPhone is the undisputed no 1 being the slimmest mobile device,it  does have a lot of competitors racing in to take that coveted spot . Closely following Apple’s flagship iPhone is Huawei which  is  7.69 mm thin, while Samsung with 7.89 mm takes the  3rd rank

Meanwhile at 9.62 mm LG ranks at the bottom of the list .On the thicker side,feather-light manufacturer Motorola—counter-intuitively—also makes the thickest device

This is likely yet another consequence of releasing more small-screen phones, on average, than competitors. A smaller display often means less room to squeeze in a battery, and as a result, the need for thicker internals.

Square ‘s Q3 financials showed a $53.9 million net loss on $332.2 million in revenue. In 2014, the company processed payments worth $23.8 billion, generating revenue of $850 million.

2)It also managed to increase the  iPhone’s average selling price during the quarter to $670, compared with $662 last quarter, at a time when smartphone prices  have seen crashing over the last 6 months.

3)Apple’s gross margin was 39% compared to 38% in the year-ago quarter.Gross margin is a closely watched measure of profitability. It sold 48.04 million iPhones in its fiscal fourth quarter. Once again the iPhone was instrumental in Apples success which accounted 63% of revenue in this quarter

the real reason why iphones and ipads cannot be manufactured in US

r those of you using apple products . specially iphone and ipad would have noticed the following t? “Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China.”. So why exactly does ipad and iphone cannot be made in US, is it the cost of production, the costs of labor in US that makes it  difficult to made iphones in US.. Why cant  apple ‘s  iPhones, iPads, and all the rest of Apple’s magic gadgets be built in the States?

"'apple's iphone and ipad components that are outsourced"

The real story of why this cant be done … will be a revelation .. and its also a sad  comment how America  have been loosing its ” manufacturing base”  and we are no longer producing the kind of people ” with the required skills “

The New York Times asked that question, and after an extremely well-researched report involving interviews with both former and current executives at Apple, the answer the Times found is both simple and chilling: iPhones aren’t made in America because they just can’t be, not because of  manufacturing costs and other hyperbole . The infrastructure and labor force that apple needs to manufacture iphones and ipads  doesn’t  exist at any levels  in US , which is necessary to support Apple’s operations — in fact its not even close to China…

  • The Chinese factory where most iPhones reach final assembly employs 230,000 workers. Compare this with US: how many cities in the US have a population higher than that, ( according to SIRI the answer was a mere 83 cities )– and that’s total population, not workforce. With an average labor force of around 65 percent of the population, only 50 US cities are large enough to provide that kind of labor pool… and even in the biggest US city of them all, New York, 230,000 people still amounts to almost three percent of the city’s entire population.
  •  One of apple’s biggest supplier Foxconn  has  over  60,000 people living and working at the factory. Many of the people at “Foxconn City” work six days a week, twelve hours a day.. In US you just cannot do that .Apple employs 43,000 people in the United States, less than a fifth the number of contractor employees assembling iPhones at one Chinese factory
  • Even though the 200,000 assembly-line workers putting part A into slot B could potentially be classified as unskilled labor, the 8700 industrial engineers overseeing the process  are highly skilled — and according to the nytimes Times, finding that many qualified engineers in the States would take 9 months . Chinese manufacturers found them all in 15 days..In US the demand and supply gap between engineers who  graduates every year is appalling .
So the reason of iphone being manufactured  is not ” a merely”  manufaturing cost issue,, Instead, it’s about who can build manufacture  the greatest number of iPhones within the shortest period of time, all while remaining flexible and instantaneously adaptable to Apple’s needs.
